C, as 2-\J class matter. fi. H. AULL, EDITOR Monday, Mairch 3, 1914. The legislature will probably ad jcurn this week. And shortly thereafter the campaign will be upon us And so it goes. Governor Blease is being sustainec * v of fVi;q ooccinr in most 01 nis vewes ? ?. of the legislature, and in his vetoes be is carrying out the policy wnich he has many times announced. By the time the general assembly adjourns, the few members who will mot have been mentioned by the newsjwipers as probable candidate foi lieutenant governor will have a righ! : feel very much slighted. Tlie policy of "watchful waitingadopted by the Washington administration as to Mexico, appears to b* mainly a policy of demanding information, which is sometimes given anc sometimes not, and which, when received, may be correct or may not Bowever, we trust that interventior may not be necessary and that the policy adopted by President Wilson and Secretary Bryan may work ou1 for the best interests of all involved. The general assembly adjourned or Saturday night ft ,av?yyionwacoycoa Saturday until tonight. It would seem that adjournment could have been reached Saturday night if there had been a? earnest effort to do so, but such was not the case. It appears now that the session may go on the rest of the week. We hope the senate will reach a vote upon two measures which it has before it It is hardly probable that any amount of talk can change a single vole upon the two cen- rate bill, and the Fortner bill, and surely no senator would admit that he would hesitate to put himself on record on either measure. When one notices the many bills passed by the general assembly providing for constitutional amendments most of which are proposed to meet local demands and when the number of amendments which have been made is taken into consideration he must realize that it will not be long until there will be a demand for another constitutional convention. The constitution wi!l be so perfortated with amendments before long that even its framers will not be able to recognize it. It is absurd that it should be necessary, every time "a town wants tc "assess abutting property owners," tc have to amend the constitution. The many friends of Judg*e and Mrs. Eugene B. Gary will sympathize with them in the sudden taking away of their son, Ernest Gary. Death is sad at any time and under any conditions but when the young are thus cut down with a life of promise and usefulness before them it seems doubly sad. Youns Garv it is said was a favorite among his college mates which is always a test of tie true character and worth of a boy. Life is all mystery and the doings of an all wise Providence are past our understanding. It is left only for us to recognize that he doeth all things well and for the good of his people, and somewhere, sometime it will all be revealed to us, so we are told. A simple faith and trust is all that is left us amid such sore oereavements SAYS REPORT IS FAIR Col. E. H. Aull, editor of The Herald and News of Newberry, and a - strong supporter of Governor Blease is out today in an editorial to the effect that the report of the asylum investigation committee is entirely fair to all concerned. In this we think the committee 1 served the best interest of the in* 1: tution. Taere is no doubt of the f; that the effort was made to give t investigation a political turn but its report the committee -has ignoT this, and, as we see it has endeavored and has succeeded in laying before t legislature the real troub'e and I offered the proper solution of ti trouble. It is now up to the regents.
