Coleman, in January last, Harry Coleman was brought into court this morning to " ? ? .i. w receive me ui xnc imp* lavjumenr. Judge Devore told the prisoner araon? other things that he had given him the advantage of every ruling in regard to testimony where there was any doubt and had given him every opportunity to introduce testimony in his behalf. When the sentence was pronounced young Coleman showed fcT 110 emotion. He looked a little hagF gard. probably due to a restless night. 9 He was cool and collected throughout Fand stated in a clear voice tnai ne had nothing to say why sentence should not be pronounced. It is said that the majority of the jury stood for electrocution and that the verdict was a compromise. The jury deliberated for about four and a half hours and reached an agreement at 1.1.30 o'clock last night. The court of general sessions ad Journed here today, it is unaersiooa ^ that there will be an extra term of this F court later on in the fall. H WISHES ACTIOS 0>" CURRENCY. j F Administration Laying Plans to Prevent Further Delay in Passage of Bill. Washington, Sept. 30.?The senate banking and currency committee to-1 _ day labored through another day of j technical discussion of the adminis- J b tration currency bill, while the White House began to consider means of hastening the progress of the measure towards the statute books. For seven hours the committee heard a discus? sion of the bill by Charles A. Conant, j I financial expert of New York, whose j testimony will be continued tomor- j row. Conferences at the White House and the capitol among the adminis-; tration forces took up the problem of hurrying consideration of the measure in committee where a majority of i members appear to be willing to ft listen to all the testimony available K in relation to the measure. Senators " Owen and Shafroth, champions of the bill, talked with President Wilson - ? i A.T? and then comerrea wua me l^euiu-1 cratic members of the committee, who he made by the administration on Sat> nrday to secure an agreement in the committee to set a date for closing certain provisions of the bill. Later . it became known that an attempt will have shown a decided aversion to r the hearings. Spvprnl dpmoeratic members of the committee held a private conference tonight. Senator Reed, one of the democrats who has been opposed to cutting off the 'bearings, today issued a L statement setting forth at length the k various opposing opinions about the V effect of the administration bill, ft "I think there will be a full investigation," he said, "but this does Wnot mean interminable delay or endp lesS hearings. At the conclusion of j the hearings I shall vote for the bill if I think it is wise. If I tiiink it can be improved by amendment I then shall vote for it as amended. If I think it is a bad bill, I shall vote against it and shall, in that event, bring in a bill or support a bill brought u in by some other senator, which in my judgment will relieve the present f defects of our banking and currency . laws." During today's hearings Mr. Conant indorsed the general purposes of the "bill "to secure an elastic currency and to centralize the country's reserves." He recommended a number of P amendments, several of them followI Ing the lines suggested by the recent kconference of bankers at Chicago. DEATH OF MRS. BESSIE LABORS. I "Wife of Rev. C.
