Zachry, of Augusta, Ga., rushed 10 I Columbia in an automobile with her two children when the court awarded the custody of them to her husband, Julian J. Zachry. Mrs. Zachry appealed to Governor Blease for protection. The governor assured her that he would not grant any requisition for her and would not send her back to Georgia. She told the goverr r that she was staying at a boarding house here, but it was reported this morning that she had left the city. It was reported in Augusta that the i sheriff was ready to take possession ! of the children, but just as soon as Judge Henry C. According to information from. Augusta Mr. and Mrs. Zachry were married in 1909. Mrs. Zachry was Miss \1 -arv Wilpnv \Tr 7nnhrv's shenn grapher. Says a printed report of the case in Augusta: "Their marrie:! life was supposed to be running smoothly enough until the public learned, through Mrs. Zachry's suit fci alimony, that they had become estranged. "In the ordinary's court the custody of the two children, Frances, less than three years of age, and Mildred, aged nine months at the time of the neparaiion, was awarded to the father, but Mrs. Zachry would not part with them. It was about six weeks ago when the father brought habeas corpus proceedings in ordinary's court to secure possession of the children, but he consented to permit the younger child to remain temporarily with its mother. He took the other child to Harlem to live with his parents. When the first decision was rendered Mrs. Zachry fainted in the court room. She did not abandon the fight for her children there, but employed counsel, and on a writ Df certiorari the case was taken into the superior court. Little Frances was visiting her mother, and her week's stay was up Tuesday when Mrs. Zachry, in her desperation, fled with both." Mrs. Zachry is said to have kin people at Bath and Graniteville, in Aiken county, and in Bamberg, tl was reported from Augusta that her hus band had employed detectives to trace the children and their mother. The case recalls the fight between B. R. Tillman, Jr., and his wife for the possession of their children in this State, and an agitation to change the law giving the father custody of the children has already been begun in Georgia, very much as was the case in this State following the Tillman hearing. Both Mr. and Mrs. Zachry are said to be prominently connected in Augusta and there is much interest in the matter. LISTED TO THIS.
