The new chief of police is from Laurens, where he has served on t]i<? police force. He has the reputation of being fearless and impartial as well a? determined aacl persistent in the discharge of his duties. The local correspondent of the State adds the following: "The new chief of police comers from Laurens with a line reputation, having served on the force there for about seven years. "J. C. I^ee and R. H. FranKim are lucrum bents. "Mr. Griffin has been working insurance here for some time. He has had experience as policeman at Greenwood and Clinton and conke with good indorsements. "Mr. Stone and Mr. Williams are new men. Mr. Williams lives in West End. Mr. Stone has been in the motorcycle business for some time, a member of the firm of Wicker & Stone. "Mr. Werts, the street superintendent, is a new man. He has lived in Newberry several years and is well irnnwri and well thousrht of here. "The general opinion is that the council has selected an unusually good set of officers. They begin their duties January 1." Beautiful Silver Wedding. A beautiful entertainment of the Yuletide season was a reception, tenr?prpri Thursday evening by Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Caldw<-II in honor of their silver wedding. The house was elaborately decorated for the occasion. The parlor and dining room were in silver and white with Southern sniilax and mistletoe falling gracefully from walls and mantel. White carnations- were in profusion. and silver bells were suspended from all a', ailable places. The library was typical of the season with holly and mistletoe, red carnations and red candles. Receiving at the door was Mrs. .J. B. Hunter, who ushered the guests into the parior, where they were received by Mc. and Mrs. Robert Caldwell, Misses Sarah and Carolyn Caldwell, and Mr. Dave Caldwell. Mrs. Caldwell wore a beautiful gown, of silver grey char me use,. Miss Sarah Cald well pink charmeuse with Duchesse lace, and Miss Carolyn Caldwell pink inessaline draped with dew-drop lace. Beautiful gifts were displayed in the library, where the guests signed their names in a dainty book with silver ink. A delightful salad and frozen course was served.
