FIX THE ASSESSMENTS [ FOR THE CANDIDATES x A SENATORIAL CAMPAIGN WILL BE HELD. Itinerary Prepared?State Democratic I Executive Committee Met?Other Matters Considered. The State Democratic executive committee meeting in Columbia Tues/Jau at nnnn in the- library at the State house fixed the assessments for the j candidates entering the State cam- J paign, and decided upon a separate j itinerary for the candidates for the j United States senate, congress and j solicitor. The itinerary for the State officers was mapped out at a meeting of a subcommittee, held here several days ago. The constitutional provision of the party that a separate campaifn be held where there is more than one candidate in the race for the j United States senate was cited by F. H. The first campaign meeting will be held at Sumter next Tuesday. John Gary Evans, the State ??? The senatorial campaign will open in Columbia on Tuesday, June 25, and will close in Aiken on August 23. The separate campaign was made neces- j sary because two candidates have al- j ready filed their pledges for the United States senate.T hey are Jasper W. Talbert, of Parksville, in Edgefield county, and N. B. Dial, of Laurens. Senator Tillman is in the race for re-election, but he will not make the canvass of the State. The candidates for con? *? Hallman, who has been in charge of the Lutheran church here for several years, in fact having had charge of it from the organization as j a mission until now, preached his last > sermon here Sunday. Dr. "Hall man has certainly a large circle of warm friends here who regret he will not have occasion to come here as often as he has done. Ball, two copies of the Laurensville Herald, bearing dates of April 3, and May 15, 1885, and a News and Courier were .the things recently found in a hollow post adjoining the Bank of Laurens by Contractor j Leslie and Messrs. Dominick, committeeman from Newberry, as proxy of Governor Blease, offered the resolution, -which was unanimously adopted, providing j for the separate campaign for the can- j didates for the United States^ senate. The Dominick resolution instructed the sub-committee on campaign itinerary to arrange the sched- j ule for this campaign. It is the general belief among the committeemen, however, that there will be little interest in this campaign, as there vvill be little competitive in- j teres: in the race, and that the sena- j toria'i candidates will hardly take in all the places mapped out for them. i ?^? It is to the great credit of the South | Carolina press that not a paper in this State printed the scandalously untrue; article sent out from Rock Hill con\ cerning the alleged discourtesy on the i. ?j. a j - ?- I part vi vvmiurup siuueiiui towarus Governor Blease during the graduation exercises. There was not a word of truth in it, and it is a great pity that such matter should be sent out of Rock Hill. It does this city no good and it is a cruel injustice to Winthron col lege and President D. B. Johnson. As i a matter of fact, Gov. Blease was accorded every courtesy due the high office he occupies.
