TIIKEE MEN FACE CHARGE. Alleged to Have Committed Brutal Attack?One of Quartet Escaped. t Spartanburg, April 22.?Caught in a dragnet which was thrown far and wide around Greer, three of four white men accused of an atrocious attack i on a white woman of near that place were lodged in the county jail by j Sheriff W. J. White tonight. The j prisoners are Ben Littlefield, Boyce j Littlefield and Claude Wright The k fourth man, Robert McCarter, escaped after being pursued to Taylors, Greenville county. The chase will be renewed tomorrow. With unparalleled boldness the four stormed the home of Henry Rollins on : Saturday night, it is charged, during < his absence, tore a shotgun from the grasp of Ernest Rollins and drove him ' tho "hnnso and subiect- I away, w i cvivcu ? ( ed the alleged woman victim to un- J mentionable abuse, three of them at- ! tacked her in the house she says and j the fourth, Claude Wright, after his companions had fallen over in a drunken stupor, compelled her to accom- J * pany him into the nearby woods, where he detained her the rest of the night Mrs. Rollins, pursued part of the way by one of the boys, fled to the home of her brother-in-law, Robert "Rollins, father of Ernest Robert and Ernest say they were afraid to attempt the rescue of the other woman. A telegram was sent to Greenville Sunday night The local telegraph; offices were closed but Sheriff White i * was communicated with by long distance telephone this morning and took the first train to Greer. In the torrential downpour this morning the i rhase was started. The alleged crime | had stirred the community and Sheriff White had many offers of assistance. The posse was divided into groups of two and three and the country was scoured as with a fine tooth comb. Wright and the Littlefield boys were found in a patch of woods j by J. B. "In the spring a young man's fancy j turns to love"?and baseball. There j never was such a lot of fans at the college. Everybody is proud of the team. It has won six out of seven : games in the league. * President Harms is still at his job of raising $50,000 before June 1. Con- I f siderably over half of the amount is in hand already.
