CLEMSON BOARD MEETS. Fertilizer Tax Income Shows Decrease Curtailment is Planned. Columbia State, 15th. Several matters of importance were discussed at a special meeting of the board of trustees of Clemson college, held here last night. It was estimated by members of the board that the rev enue secured by the college from the sale of the fertilizer tax will be reduc ed by about 25 per cent. as a result of the low price of cotton. The income from this source last year was $265, 000, and the board expects to receive about $200,000 this year, As a result of th. decrease provision will be made for a curtailment in several depart nents to meet the decrease. The great est reduction will occur in the public service department of the school; the work of the college proper will not be affected. The board contemplated some permanent improvements. These .inprovements will be abandoned for th'e present. The question of the selection of a ditector of agriculture, to succeed W. X, Perkins, who resigned recently, was cnider by the boaid. Several =ameSwere under consideration, and the board will make no announce Mnent untl the new head of the depart mnent has been selected. The name of th4 now director will be announced when an acceptance has been received bythe 'board. : A committee of the board reported thit some progress had been made to yard the selection of a site for the ag rioultural experiment station in the Pee Dee section of the State. Several sites are under consideration and the selection will be announced in the near future. Dr. W. M. Riggs, president of Clemson, said yesterday that the an nual report of the institution had been tompleted and placed in the hands of J. E. Swearingen, the State superin tendent of education.
