'LOR1 - HOME IS DESPOILED LEAING TO AWFUL TRAGEDY Tampa, Fla., Nov. 21.-C. F. Perry, a fruit grower, was killed, and T. W. Green wounded in a gun battle today near Valaha, Lake county, Florida, which resulted from the deceased be ing overtaken in the woods with the six months' bride of T. H. Pantley, Jr., by the angry husband and the -young woman's father. Pantley, it is said, had for some time suspected that the intentions of Perry, a neighbor, towards his young wife, were not as they ihould have been. When the husband returned to his home this morning, after an absence of several hours, he found his bride absent. He immediately told her fa ther, T. W. Green, of his suspicions and the two armed tbemselves and started in pursuit. Perry and Mrs. Pantley were over taken in the woods. Perry sought cover behind a tree and opened fire with a revolver. He shot the young woman's father in the wrist, missed; Pantley and then shot Green in the side. As Green fell to the ground he shot Perry twice. As Perry fell Pant ley discharged both barrels of his shotgun into his prostrate body. Perry died before medical attention could be summoned. FIFTEEN-POUND POTATO. Spartanburg _Xan Exhibits One a Foot Long and Two Feet Around. Spartanburg, November 20.-Mr. J. W. Alexander has on exhibition at his 'office perhaps the largest sweet potato grown in Spartanburg county this sea- I son. It weighs 13 1-4 pounds. It is 'egg-shaped, 12 inches long and 24 inches in circumference around the! middle. It is the Nancy Hall variety. This potato was grown by Mr. T. 'M. Carson on the Winsmith place, in! the city of Spartanburg. Its enormous size is due, of course, to Mr. Carson's method of cultivation and the peculiar properties of the soil on Winsmith, Heights. I Mr. Carson has a number of other potatoes nearly as large. A gentle man conversant with the value of po tatoes as a food says there are two objections to potatoes of this size; ~first, it is too large for one boy to -eat and not large enough for two, and -also, that it could -mot be placed in -the mouth of a bakedl 'possum. I Mr. Mark W. Potter, president of -the Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio Xailway, who was in the city yeste.r .day1 was shown this potato and insist ed it was a pumpkin. He asked that it be sent to the industrial depart mnent of the railway company at John son City, Tenn., that it might be ex -hibited to show what the section of fSouth Carolina penetrated by the Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio railway would produce. BOYS BURNED IN DWELLING. Brooks Wilson and Joseph Sherard Lose Their Lives in Abbeville County. Anderson, S. C., Nov. 21.-Brooks ~Wilson, aged 14, and Joseph Sherard, aged 16, were burned to death early this morning when the home of Wal ter Wilson, at Warrenton, Abbeville' county, was consumed in flames. The fire was discovered after it had gained headway by Walter Wilson, who! awakened all the members of the fa.mily on the first floor. The stairs lea ding to the room occupied by the two boys was a mass of flames and ef forts to arouse them proved futile. The fire is supposed to have beenj icaused by the dropping of a match* nsed by the boys in lighting their way - to their room. N@TICE.
