Miss Sarah Scott is spending the week with relatives and friends in Clinton and taking in the commence ment at the Clinton orphanage. Mr. H. V. Taylor, of Clinton, was in town for a day or two last week. The young people enjoyed themsel ves at a box pi nic at the Glenn-Lowry spring Tuesday evening. Mrs. Estelle Wols eley, of Baltimore, has returned to her home. Mrs. Wol seley has served successfully as mil liner for the Glenn-Lowry company store and made many friends here. Mr. Sam Taylor leaves today for1 Newberry to visit his parents and to ettend the Chautauqua. Rev. R. E. Mood is spending the wleek at his home in Spartanburg. Mr. A. M. Watson has sold out his gtock of goods to Miller Bros., and will ke,ep books for them in their handgome new brick store.I Mrs. Mary Calder, after a visit of several weeks to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Cofield he returned to her home in Winston-Salem, N. u. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Burns are spend ing the week with relatives in Ander son county. Mr. Z. H. Subet and Otis, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. David Duncan are on the sick list this -week. 4 Whitmire was visited by refreshing Sshowers of rain both Sabbath and yesterday. For two months we had Vbeen without rain. The gardens are a failure, cotton a poor stand and the dust and heat has been dreadful. All wear a smile today from the richest banker down, for when mother earth 'fails to yi;eld her increase all must g'uffer. Mr. and Mrs. James Adair and chil dren, and Misses Bessie and Sallie Belle Dillard have returned home. They have been visiting Mrs. Jno. M. .Tinney at the hotel. Nita. THE LIST STILL OPEN. Come Along and Take Your Subscrip tion to the Park-Now is the Time. .The subscriptions to the park for Newberry continue to come in, and, while none of them are large, in the aggregate we can make up the amount if we can securo enough small ones. We would prefer to have the amount made up of small subscriptions rath er than in one or two large ones. This ~is, to be the people's park, and if ev ef'ybody is interested, of course, it follows that everybody will take more pride in keeping the park up to the standard. We already have a sufficient amount subscribed to assure the park, and to begin operations. Of course, we wpuld prefer to have a little more, but it is the hope of those who are in terested in this movement to organ ize the Park association, and to begin laying out the grounds in the very near future.
