Prosperity, May 4.--Mrs. M. E. Hall, o:f Anderson and Mrs. Jno. C. Goggans, of Newberry, have returned to their respective homes after a visit to Mrs. W. A. Moseley. Mrs. G. Y. Hunter and Mrs. Eliza beth DeWalt spent Monday in Colum *bia. Miss Mattie Miller, of Mount Pil grim, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Joe Hartman. Miss Gertrude Simpson is home for .a few weeks' stay. Miss Lillie Mae Russell, of Augusta, Ga., is the guest of Mrs. J. S. Wheeler. Miss Katherine Belle, has closed her school at Starr, S. C., and is spending a while w'ith her sister, Mrs. I. S. Caldwell, en route to her home, in Staunton, Va. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Ridgell, of Jack sonville, Fla., are visiting, the latter's parents. Mr: and Mrs. W. A. Moseley. Dr. J. A. Hunt has returned to Statesville, Ga., after a visit to Mr. C. S. Schumpert. Mr. W. E. Monts has closed his -_choo1 at Pendleton and is home for -the summer vacation. Miss Minnie Boyd Brown, of Due West Female college, spent the week end at home. Miss Eugenia Meng who for the past two years has taught the school at Saluda Academy left Saturday for Union for the vacation season. Mr. C. G. Wyche, of the University of South Carolina, spehat Saturday and Sunday at home. Tuesday the following shoppers from Pomaria were in town: Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Smith, Mesdames Z. T. Pin ner and J. J. Kibler. Mr. A. G. Wise and Dr. J. I. Bed -enbaugh are delegates from the local lodge K. of P. to the grand lodge which will meet at an early date in Columbia. Rev. S. P. Koon pastor of St. Lukes Lutheran church declines a call to Greenville Lutheran church to the 4elight of his many friends. The commercial league will meet 'next Tuesday at six o'clock at which time 'the annual election of officers b will be held. The union meeting of the Reedy *River association met at BethelI -church Saturday and Sunday. The in troductory sermon was preached by 'Rev. L S. Shealy. The missionary sermon on Sunday by Rev. W. G. None of tlhe comnmittee could arrange to go ex cept Mr. F H. Aull, who left yester day afternoon for Washington. WILL CUT STOCKMAN'S SENTENCE Gov. Blease Announces Decision in Lexington Pardon Case. Columbia, May 2.--Following a hearIng this morning, Gov. Blease announced that he will reduce the sentence of S. W. Stockman, of Lex ington, who is serving a seven years' sentence for manslaughter. Stockma,n has erved about two years of the sen tence. The reason assigned for a re duction is that the man Stockman killed entered his home and horse whipped him, then the fight was re niewed in the yard and Stockman fired the fatal shot. The governor has not yet decided 1 by how much he~ will reduce the se-n ;'nie. The jovial host was the only 4 an present. He was not em'barrasS d in the least, only made it jollier for the circle. After a tima Mrs. Os ar Pitis and Miss Mildred Wlson erved a salad course, followed ,by 7 ake and cream. Mrs. Wilson is at he head of this department. She akes such an interest in this noble ~ work. She has enrolled about 20 mem ers. This work is designed princi ally for the "shut-ins" and mother's with little children who can not at end Sunday school. What a pleas at time we did have. Plenty amuse nent provided for the little tots, who were made to forget mothers for . short while. It did our hearts good . o have with us Mrs. Sarah Boozer, who is almost a "shut-in." She is 85 ears old. We missed the loving r mile of another "shut-in," Mrs. Lati-j ner, who is 80 years old. We all re-a trned home with our hearts feeling ighter, cheered a,nd inspired to reater efforts.
