The cornerstone of the administra on building of the Lutheran semi ary in Eau Claire, was laid yesterday *th fitting ceremonies. The exercises ere held at noon and were attended y- over 100 people. The addres's of day was delivered by Dr. J. A. oorehead, president of Roanoke col and president of the United Synod the Lutheran church in the South. he exercises of the day were under e direction of Dr. 0. B. Mayer, of ewbery, chairman of the building mmittee. The ceremonies were con ucted by Dr. M. G. G. Scherer, of arleston, the president of the board of directors of the seminary. The opening prayer was delivered by Dr. J. H. Wilson, of Orangeburg. Dr. A. G. Voigt, dean of the Luth n seminary, in introducing Dr. orehead, spoke especially of ,tlie resence of the large number of rep ve citizens attending the ex . He extended greetings to Dr. W. Daniel, president of Columbia Dr. W., M. McPheeters of the lumbia Theological seminary, and r. J. H. Harms, president of Newber college. Relation.of Seminary. Moreheid spoke of the relation the seminary to the United synod d to the church at large, and espe ly with reference to the, mission of e church to evangelize the world. The administration building is in progress of construction, and when completed will have cost approximate ly $40,000. It is located just opposite the residence of F. H. Hyatt in Eau Claire. The building will be of brick. There will be several lecture halls, dean's office, dormitory room and read ing rooms in the building. It is the plan of the building committee to have the building completed in time for the next session of the seminary vhich will commence in September of the present year. There will also be sev eral cottages for the professors of the seminary erected. CENSUS SOUTH CAROLINA CITIES. Spartanburg Shows Greate?t Increase, That City Forging Ahead of' Greenville. South Carolina's municipalities hav ing a population in excess of 5,000 made an advance of 22 per cent. dur ing the last 'decade. Statistici of the I last census show the number of these places increased from eight in 1900 to thirteen in 1910. Their total increase in population was only 19.5 per cent. of the State's total increase of 175,084 for the decade. Spartanburg's Increase Greatest. Spatanburg, among the cities, made the most rapid strides in population increase. This increase amounted to 54.6 'per cent. Greenville increased 32.7 per cent, while Columbia grew 24.7 per cent. and Charleston 5.4 per cent. Washington, Jan. 10.-Cotton -of the growth of 1910 ginned prior to Jan uary 1 is shown by the report of the bureau of the census, issued at 10 o'clock this morning, as 11,087,442 bales, compared with 9,467,327 from' the growth of 1909, and 12,465,298 from that of 1908. The .percentage of the last two crops ginned to January 1 was 95.8! for 1909 a,nd 95.3 for 1908. Round bales included this year are 109,296, compared with 143,949 for 1909, an'd 230,572 for 1908. Sea island bales included are 82,422 for 1910, as against 89,611 for 1909, and 86,528 for 1908.
