We wot1d like to know what has beome of the movement to establish tke Pullman gervice between Colum Wa and Atlanta via the C., N. & L. and ftaboard. This Is a service which is needed and we believe would prove profitable to both roads. - We understand that Mr. Childs, of a 0., N. & L. road, has been ready md willing to put on this service for a long time and it is up to the Sea board. It would be more profitable to the Seaboard than to the C., N. & 3. because it would give the Seaboard Ahe long end of the haul. The mail service has not yet been put on the train which now runs on Me C., N. & L. through to Greenville, krom Laurens to greenville. This is a matter, which, it seems to us, ought to have the attention of the postal ser vice. Speaking of this matter, reminds us that the mall which now arrives at Newberry at 9.05 at night Is not dis tibuted until after the arrival of the train from Columbia {next morning about 9 o'clock. When the train reach edi Newberry a few minutes before 9 this mail was distributed the night of arrival. Now, we understand, it is held at the depot and not brought to the post office until the man comes after the mail to be taken by the morning train. With the postoffice doing the business that it does, It would seem that the government ought to put on an extra clerk who could handle this mail. In fact, there enght to be an extra clerk anyway so 'bat the stamp window and money order window would not be closed every morning for one to two hours while the morning mail Is being dis ibuted. The business, It would seem would warrant keeping these windows open all the time Instead of requiring the money order clerk to leave his desk to distrIbute the morning mail. These windows are closed on the ar sival of every mail and it sometimes eauses great inconvenience, but we uppose when the bank opens up at lie postoffice that there will be sev oral extra clerks given to assist in the additional work. We notice from the Atlanta Journal tat Secretary Cooper of the chamber of commerce is arranging for the memabere to have what he terms the greater Atlanta dinner which Is to mark a new decade In the history of the Atlanta chamber of commerce. It is proposed to take a new start and z'ebaptize the Atlanta spirit and to con sonsecrate anew the splendid ener gies of the city to greater efforts. it is proposed also to Invite to this oonsecration ceremony several hun dred of their fellow citizens who wish to see a greater city. The affair is to be entirely informal so that a man may come from his office to the din aer without having to dress up for the occasion.
