The first annual State Convention of the South Carolina Baraca-Phi lathea union will convene in New berry, S. C., April 8th-10th. An interesting program has been ar raiged, and the city of Newberry is making preparations for one of the Slargest and most enithusiastie con ventions of the kind ever held. in the State. Mr. Marshall A. Hudson, founder of the Baraca4hilaithea movement; Miss Daisy Eckert, Na tional Philathea Field Secretary; Dr. H. N. Snyder, President of Wof ford college; Dr. E. M. Poteat, President of Furman university; ,Dr. Geo. B. Cromer, of Newberry; Dr. E. 0. Watson, of Columbia; Hon. Jo. A. MeCullough, of Greenville, andI other gifted speakers will take part in the program. This gather ing of Sunday School workers will mean much to the adult classes of the State, and each class, whether organized or not, is cordially invit ed and earnestly urged to send' as manmy delegates as possible. All organized classes that have not sent in their reports to the Union, Mr. M. G. Womack, Secretary, Spartanburg, S. C., are requested to do so at once in order that he may 4omplete his reordi and be able to Ifrnish a complete report at the 4Cnvention. Wireless Telephone Demonstra ted in Newberry, Exciting Much Wonder. On Monday and Tuesday of last week, Mr. Word H. Ms, State Man ager of the Fiseal Agency of the (Collins Wireless Telephone company, with headquarters at Columbia, was in Newberryv assisting Mr. J. P. Mahon to dlemonstrate the Collins -wireless telephone. Hundreds of people talked and 'stened through the instrument and elled that the sound' of the hu man voice could be carried through space and thick walls to the ear of e listener in another part of the ding. One of the striking features of the ins wireless telephon'l was the eall; by pressing a button on a - o'ak box in the lobby of the otwell hotel the call bell was rung t,he .telephone which was located -the bharber shop. The electrical vibrations from the spark gap coil was carried through a brick 'wall 20 inhes in thickness and the bell nirer failedi to respond when the bu to was preLsed. i q+4 .
