BIG CASE TO BE TRIED. Seminole Charges to be Probed at Columbia.-"Graft" Cases Wil Hardly be Reached. Columbia, Jan. 2.-Unsual inter est attaches to the term of Court op ening here tomorrow because there is a probability of several big cases .coming up. Judge Prince wil preside. The dispensary "graft" ea;es are on the docket, but there is some loubt about whether they will be rea&,ed at this time. AttorneY Gen eral Lyon said some time ago that he would try some of them at thiz rerm and the solicitor of this circuit inti mated *at the eases would come up, hut matters that have come up with inihe past few deys seem to indicate that very probably the ease will not come up. If any aese is. tried, it will most probably be that against John Blak, in which a mistrial was orler ed at,the last sessiOD of the Cdurt, when. a coPy of the loeal mong newspaper was discovered as having found its way into the jury room. There has been some diseussion as to whether or not former jeopardy could be pleaded in this case. The law is very plain as to when a Judge or ders a mistriW, but very probably the point wM be raised. Her throat was cut from ear to ear, and there was a dent in' her head as if made by an axe. The bloody axe and razor were found in the kit-ehen. The murder was most mysterious. Al her children were asleep in the house, yet noae say that they heard 'the noise that must have been made during the killing. The bloody razor was said to have been the property of Medlin, who was a frequent visitor to the home of Mrs. Griffin. It is stated that the new trial of the ease will be very sensationall in itis nature. SAID "DAMN" AT BREAKFAST Inmate of Confederate Home at Columbia Suspended. Columbia, Jan. 2.-F. Douglas Walker, one of the most widely known soldiers at the Confederate Home, was yesterday suspended from the Home for 60 days. Mr. Walker has no living relatives' and the Confederate Home was his only home, so he yesterday afternoon ap plied for admittance at the county alms house, and was given a - bed there. Mr. Walker says that because he said ''damn" at breakfast he was noti6ed by the aommandant that he would be given, a furlough of 60 days. Mr. Walker's aceonnt of his trouble is that Mrs. W. D. Starling, wife of the commandant, asked one of the men at breakfast if he had heard the whisties blow for the New .Yeax the night before. The man addressed was deaf and the question was re peated, whereupon Mr. Walker said, "Mrs. Starling, he is so damn deaf that he can't hear any whistles." After the nieal was eoneluded Mr. Walker says Capt. Starling said *to him: "Walker, I have a New .Year's present for you. You are suspended for 60 days for swearng in the pres ence of my wife. Mr. Walker expects to stay at thi county alms house until his en forced furlough is ended. Mr. Walker is a native of Char ton, , was amember of Hamp ton's Legion, and . after the war went to New York, where men of weaith became in-terested .in him and assisted him until he -was a well to-do business man. But his bene factor died -and he lost what he had accumulated in the erash that fol lowed. Finally he could find no work and was starving on the streets when he went to a police station and told them 'that he was a Confederate soldier who could get no work and had nothing to eat. and requested that they send him to an alms house. MRS. J. P. &ICHARDSON. Widow of a r'ormer Governor of the State Dies in Colmbia. Columbia State, 3rd. Mrs. J. P. Richardson, reliet of the late John Peter Riehardson, died at 2:30 -this morning at the Columbia hotel, where she had been making *her home for a number of years. The funeral arrangements will be an nounced later. Mrs. Richardson was Miss Julia Manning Richardson, before her marriage to her cousin, who served the State for four years as governor. She was .born in Sumter coun'ty on t'he 12th of July, 1836. It is probabe that her remains rjiD be taken to Camden to be iterred in the fap ily burying ground by the side of her distinguished husband. NOTIGI.
