It is claimed that the price of cotton is high and going higher, and that the price of yarn and cotton goods is continually going down. This information is given out by the board of governors of the Amer ican Cotton Manufacturers Associa tion. It seems to us that only a short time ago we read an interview wit;h a mill superintendent in this State, in which the information was given out that the cotton mills of theSouth were never in a more prosperous condition, that they had made a profit from 20 ,to 40 per cent. during the past year, and that they were in a very prosper ous condition. We do not pretend to know a great deal about cotton mills nor their business, but we believe that if the price of cotton goes up, that they will increase the price of the cotton pro duct so that there will be a profit in it to the manufacturer. Possibly the profit will not be as large as stated by this mill superintendent. but it is a fact that all cotton mills that have been handled in a business way have made good profits on the investments. We do not believe that cotton is go ing to be much lower, and no one be lieves that these mills are going to shut down, and this meeting and the information given out at it seems to us to be an effort to bear the market. If cotton goes even higher than it is now the mills will continue to run. As a matter of fact, however, there is a good profit in manufacturing cot ton, even at a little higher price than it is selling to-day. .The idea of a park along either side of Scott's creek from the railroad to Calhoun street is meeting with favor among our pec ,e.
