Three nearoes shot. mn face and h. dv. Wade 's body was publicly burned, after it had been cut down from a pole, on whi'-a it hung for an hour or more after he was killed. An investigation by the police this afteinoon showed that when Wade purchased the shotgun and a box of shells, a few minutes before he opened fire on the first man, that ithere was -nothing~ unusual in his manner or be havior. Other negroes who were with him in the morning say that he had not been drinking, nor did he show any evidence of having taken cocaine. Wade came to Monroe recently from Pine Bluff. Ark. He was accom panied by several other negroes and they commenced :o make trouble for the local polhice soon after they arriv ea. iiwas alleged that they were *i'mbers of a society in Arkansas,! w~hich had as its object revenge for all injuries done the black race. As a result, these negroes clashed with dVe police on many occasions and 'twice recently they have exchanged shots with officers. It was alleged that Wade wvas heard to say to-day that no white man was going to shoot him. No more attention was paid to him, hnowever. unt:il he started on his wild rampage in-day. STATE SENATE NOT BRIBED. Senator Tig4man Did.n't Intend to Make Any Such Accusa.iion, He Claims. Columbia. August 24.-Senator B. 1R. Tillman passed through. the city to day on his way to Anderson whe-re he goes to attend the Red Shirt Reunion. Senator Tillman will speak to-morrow afternoon. He says he is going to talk about the days of '76, telling of some history of tit time. Re ferring to his Richburg speech, he said that lie did not mean to accuse the State Senate of being bribed. That he did say that in and out of the Sen ate there were attorneys represent ing the railroad interests, and in some manner this had been brought to bear on the Senate, as shown by the vote on the mileage bill. "I am not say ing that the. Senate was improperly influe,need." said Senator Tillman. "but go and look up the vote. The bill was passed in the House and killed in the Senate.' Branehville, Aug. 24.-One of the social events of the Connor neigh borhod near Branchville was the hunt last Thursday and Friday participated in by the following named gentlemen: Messrs. E. 0. Connor. 0. F. Ott, "Un cle Jack" Kenedy, Dr. Connor 'and David Connor and Prof. T. W. Keitt of Clemson college. The party was successful in getting a deer every day of the hunt except one. On Friday Prof. Keitt had the pleasure of kill ing a very large buck that weighed 181 pounds after he had been drawn.
