At I 1 o'clock this morning the ruins | wero still blazing, but the fire had I spent its force. The origin of the L fire is not known. There was no one K in the building when the fire started, B the hotel being closed. V Chick Springs is a wifiter as well V iVo a summer resort, but the liotel L had not yet' opened for the" winter season. V The old building, occupied by the ft manager, Mr. J. A. I The stock was owned by J. A. Bull, tlve president of the company, and a number of Greenville citizens. This company bought the property about three years ago and erected a n'ew building, which was one of the handsomest, hotels in this state. IV Negro Race Conference. The Negro Race Conference was a great success last year. The speeches*l)y both white and colored were inspiring and uplifting. The delegation was vary large. The conference will meet again Tuesday, January 14 and continue in session until Friday, January 17, 1!)08. The speakers for this conference are even stronger than last year. We will have prominent women and> men, among them Mrs. Booker T. Washington. One day, Thursday, will be 'set apart as wo man's day. We want the best thinking members of the race to come, 'especially the farmers, teachers, preachers, mechanics, etc. We propose to organize at this meeting a Negro Slate Fair Association: The board of directors of the Fair Association have promised to give us the Fair Grounds free to encourage us. This is very apt to be the. last race conference to be held in the state and you cannot afford to miss it. Let- delegates come from Sunday school^, societies, churches ? or any business organization.
