The movement for a hospital in Columbia was started by the ladies of that city, and pushed to a successful conclusion hy them. The ladies of Newherry could build a hospital, as tin1 ladies of Columbia did. Once started il would, of course, he self-sustainimr. and in all probability a ?;?ii?iI investment. Hut il is not so much from a finan- ^ eial point nf view that the need of a hospital is realized. In a case of typhoid fever, for instance, the patient can receive much better alleulinn in a hospital than in any home, and Ihe Inii".?i*r i- remover from the other members of I he family. ' The matter has been suggested. and Ihe suggestion is a good one. If the ladies should take up the work, wo feel sure they would have the hearty co-operation and the active aid and support. There !ia> been considerable talk in a 'jeneral way in Newberry fulsome time about the advisability of building another cotton mill. In tact, il is very probable that one or two more mills will he launched duriutr Ihe year, il is very important to the commiiiiit v 1 hat the pay roll in Newberry be increased and there i- no better locality for another mill. Hy co-operation a large part of (lie capital for another mill could he secured from the business men of this community. If one or both of the enterprises that are now under way should materialize we hope that every business man in the community will take some stock whether il he much or | great so that the enterprise will at ! least have this tangible evidence of his endorsement and encouragement. The two mills that have been built in Newberry are both being: operated successfully and are paying: good dividends to their stockholders. There is no reason why one or two more mills should not be built and should not he equally profitable to those who put their money into them.
