Colunbiia, May 2.-It will. be re membered that a conference consist ing of 65 of the leading educators in the state met in the Senate Cham ber, April 11, 1903, and among other .things appointed a Campaigia. Execu tive Committee to push a campaign for the improvement of the public school facilities, in this state. This committee consisted of Gov. D. C. Heyward, Supt. 0. B. Martin and (Ast. D. B. Johnson. This commit tee has kept ill) a campaign by send in- out speakers, by publishing bil letins, circulars, etc. A great deal has beenl accomplished along lines which the Con-ferenC.ee declared itself in far or of. It is hoped that arrangements may be made whereby Miss Mary T. Nance, president of the School Tm provlement association, may devote her entire time to that work. It is also hoped that arrangements can be made to send speakers into coinmuni ties which are desirious of establish ing High Schools. There are so niany of these plaves that it has been found impossible for Supt. Martin and Prof. Hand to visit them all in any reasonable length of time.
