It is now beyond question tlut the receipts at the post oice in New Uerry will entitle the eity to free do livery of mail. 4I, fact, the receipts are already beyond the minimum fix ed by the government to entitle u to this service, and the i'eeeipts for two are yet to be added. The que'tionl is now up to city council to comply with the require nients of the governnont as to stireets aid the numbering of the streets, and the numbering of the houses. This is a matter which should have the immediate and pronlpt attention of city council, so that there .nQay be no tilay in securing free delivery. The main thing to be dooe, we pi-e sunme, is to have the houses ttnubered. The streets were all named and the signs pit ip a few yeirs ago. Some of these may have to be replaced and new streets, which have been opened, will have to he niamed, but as it ap pears nw, l.about the oily thing to be dw:e is the ium Ilhe'iiv of the houses. Why Support the Young Men's Chris tian Association. In answee to the question-''why has the youing Mei's Christian Assoz ciation a claim upon the moral, intel Ieetl u and material resources of men aind'women in all walks of life''-we may state tihe followinI reasons: ..The purpose of the Young Men's Viristian Association is to help the young men to make their stand in the face of all the forces of evil that eat their way into tle character and weaken tlie moral, intellectual an1d' ph,vsical powers of men, and to win their fighlit for character. II. Its active membership is based upon meilbershii) in ain evangelical church, which makes tie association a zreat a.ency of the church through which voin- men are led to give their lives to the cause of Christ. and to the support of the church. III. The great political, industrial and social problems that are being ag,itated today, are to be solved to morrow, and the burden of solutloi will fall upon the young men of to day. Will they be able to meet the task? IV. The religious need in the lives of young men is great. Of the thirteen million young men in the United States today, only one million are members of the cltreh; seven million habitually stay away fron church se-vice: three-fourths of the inmat'es of prisons and reforina tories are youing' mIen. The drink habit claims the Voiun, man as its vie tim. Impurity in the lives of the Vol,r men -i, appalling. The faeinating in fluences of gambling gain the mas tery in the life while the man is still young.. V. A man 's career is largely de termi.ned by the thought and conduct between the ages of fifteen and twventy-five. HI-s after life, as a rule, is siinply a realization of the ideals fostered duiring this period. During this time a man should have thrown about him influences that make for clean thinking, self control, chiarac ter building and upright conduct. During t'hiis time men need testimon ies from those who are actually in the fight, declaring the possibility of a successful career in any calli:ng b)y the m1an who dhares to be strictly up right and( hoinorable.. NI. The cause needs men of abil-e ity. If.young men are to be led to make their chief aim in life, wherev er they may be, the extenision of the k(iogdom (of G*od throughout the world, the possibility of such a car ceer muist be demonstrated b)y a few strong souls. It is worthy the highest and best in any man to' stand in the face of the evils of today and demonstrate the possibility of an honest upright life imn. his own business or pr6oession.
