RESEMBLE EAOH OTHER. Queer* Mistakes. of Identity Among Publio Men at Wash ington. Striking facial resemblances of men in public life and in official cir cles in this city are frequently com mented- upon. There are three men %videly known whose similarity of face and form is so striking, says the Wishington Star, that queer mistakes of identity are ex)erienced, every now and then. The resemblance of the president to his distinguished secre lary of the navy and attorney gener al, Mr. Moody, has always been the subject of remark and now and then of humorous mistakes. Now that Mr. Moody has been elevated or at least transferred to the supreme court of the United States lie has come across a.nother double in the person of James Maher, clerk of the supreme court. When Mr. Justice Moody first met Mr. Maher it was as a member of the house of representatives, when the re semblance between the Iwo was re marked. Again when as attorney gen oral he had oceasion to pro to the court room he occa'zionally saw his doulble, and now as a justice on the bliench he can look over tlie edge of his judicial 'own any time and practically see himself as others see him. Mr. Ma her's resemblance to the president is striking wfhen in repose. but when lie speaks or smiles he is obliged to ae knowledge that owing either to the subduing atmosphere of the court or to the lack of dental qualifications lie cannot vie with the chief executive at the other end of the avenue. The reseniblance of Senators Ald rich and Foraker is also striking, al though file distinguished senator from Rhode Island plays the role of a ret iceit general manoeuv'ring his forces on the floor of the senate. while the senator from Ohio acts more strik ing part of a dashing ofli'er with standard uplifed ready for the fray, r'egarIdless of the distribution of for ces. If Mr. Foraker's well covered head were matched by the hirsute adornment of Mr. Aldrich the resem blance would he complete. But stand inz side by side they appear as broth er, and thir similarity is frequently commented upon. N.iw and lien Representative Adin B.
