REYrUS IN SWITZERLAND. ng near Geneva-Grateful to Amercia. ew York Times. Mayor Dreyfus is staying with his ife and children at the Hotel Ville trubel, in Leuk, in the Canton Berne, witzerland, where lie will remain un il September 5, when he will go to isit his close friends, E. A. Neville, t the Villa Hauterine, Celigny, near Geneva. This is the house that Drey fus occupied for the last two years previous to his vindication. He has a strong attachment for it and for its owner, M. Neville. Now that he is again an officer of the French army, Dreyfus is strictly forbidden to make any statement for publication, but in conversation with friends he makes no concealment of hid grateful appreciation of the sym pathy manifested by the American press and public during. the period following his first trial and convic tion. Dreyfus is not an enthusiastic man, and has treated his case as a great international cause, in which he has no personal concern, but in talking about the American interest in .his fate he has sometimes grown eloquent. While he has praised the courage of France in finally giving him justice and honor, and in doing it in a generous and whole-hearted way, he has praised, without stint, the unremitting kindness he has re ceived from the American people. Dreyfus has been asked by friends whether lie ever intended visiting America. He has replied that at pres ent he has no plan or intention of doing so. He has received offers to go on the lecture platform in America, which he has dismissed without any consideration whatever. He says it is absolutely out of the question. His sole concern was vindication and re storation to the Frenei army. Ile has scarcely been a day out of his family eirch since his liberation from prison. The iinlder of this year. ie says., iue to his country and hi family. lie is devotin coii nsiderable attention to the education of hi4 chil dren. The Villa H-auterine is a beau tiful place, and is one of (lie im-st dle lightful choteaus on the lake. It com mands a fine view of the mountains Mmes. Dreyfus and Neville are the closest of friends. It was Mme. Drey fus who taught Mine. Neville lace making. A Call to Democrats. To All Democratic Voters: If there ever was a time in the his -tory of the Democratic party for the manifestation of loyalty and patriot ism on the part of its members, it is right now. If we are to win a victory and *eeet a President two years hence, we ust first elect a House of Represen htives this fall. A democratic House n and will investigate every depart nt of the Government. With all them honeycombed by ''Graft'', o edges of which, only, have been neched b)y recent exposure and prose cutions, there wvill be a revelation of rottenness that wvill astound the coun try and create a demand for a Demo cratic administration to cleain the Government workshop. To win the House we need money to ~:defray legitimate expenses and get ~out our vote. We have no protected m~onopolies from which to draw to fill ~our coffers, as they do those of the ~epublican party. We must, there 1ore,a appeal to loyal Democrats for ~Vcontributions. Will you send us $1.00 at once, and in return for this we will send you c opies of our campaign literature is Ssued by the committee. You will have the thanks of the entire Democratic ~rparty for your favorable response to our requmest. Address all remittances to, J. M. Griggs, Chairman, Munsey Building, W~ashington, D. C. New Electric System on English Rail road Is Said to be Successful. New York Commercial. The Great Western Railway ha successfully experimented with an just installed Onl a branch line a meth od of audible signaling as a substitut, for - the familiar semaphore systell which, it is believed, will be entirel displaced in course of time. The new system is electrically work ed aln(d is declared to be simplicity it self. The engine as it travels alonj the line comes into contact with a] apparatus, fixed to the track, whicl is worked from the signal box, am sets in motion a form of mechanisn on the engine. Instead of the en gineer having to look out for his sign als they declare themselvcs to his ea unmistakably. "Line clear," is ex pressed by the blowing of a whistle which continues until the enginee with his own hand turns it off. Both bell and whistle are fixed in side of the engine cab, close by the en gineer as lie stands at his lever, an< should afford a more telling mean of notification than a dial on whiel signs appear. The substitution o audible for visible signals would re lieve engineers o'f the strain of per petually looking out for any particu lar signal or lamp. The apparatus is so constructed tha if anything went wrong anywhere th, whistle signal would operate. Th, chief value of the audible signal would be found in foggy weather. an< the new system is, therefore, of parti cular importance in a country sto fo: afflicted as England is.
