TEACHERS DISTRICT SCHOOL. Five Counties Have Agreed to go Into the Plan. The Distriet Summer school for teachers is now an accomplished fact. At a meeting of county superintend ents of education held in Greenwood recently the school was definitely or ganized. There will be a superin tendent or principal and eight in structors. five men and three women. The faculty was chosen and announce ment will be made of the names of the instructors as soon as acceptances are received from those elected. Some of the best educators in the state have been secured whose very names will guarantee the success of the school. Tuesday, June 19th, has been fixed for the opening and there will , be a session of four weeks closing on Tues day, July 17th. This work has been given at the State Summer school for several years and has been very popular with the teach ers. Four public lectures by leading ed ucators have been arranged. It is expected that these will form one of the chief attractions of the school. The five counties of Abbeville, Greenwood. Laurens, Newberry and Saluda unite to support the school. At the conference last week were present: Hon. 0. B. Martin, State Superintendent of Education, who has been very earnest in his efforts tQ es tablish the school, Dr. John 0. Wilson of Lander college, Supt. R. W. Nash, of Laurens. Supt. J. S. Wheeler of Newberry, Supt. B. F. Sample of Sa luda, Capt. Jas. Rogers and Supt. Coker of the Greenwood schools. A little farther on a crowd of non combatants stood on the street cor ner and began to jeer at us when -the guard denounced such proceedings s and said if a stop was not put to such behavior he would turn the guns over . to his prisoners with permission to t shoot into the crowd. That hint was enough. These flag incidents make interest ing reading. Engines are very much like people. The switch engine makes more fuss around the depot than the engines on the through trains. The cheaper the person, the more trouble he causes. A girl wouldn't know half so much of the things that she oughtn't to if her mother didn't try to have her know less.
