This train leaves Laurens about six o'clock in the morning. goes to Columbia, and returns the same day, leaving Columbia about five o'clock in the afternoon. The new ser vice to be inaugurated will be of great, convenience to the people along the line between Laurens and Colum bia. The above is from the Washington letter in the Evening Record. It is good news and the people all along the line appreciate the good offices of Mr. Lever in this matter. The railroad authorities say the service will be put on very soon but just -at what date it cannot be stated at this writing. As soon as this is do,e Mr. Childs should make this a passenger train, and run it through to Greenville. Governor Heyward has, appointed Superintendent Frank Evans as a member of the Jamestown exposition board .to take the place made vacant by the resignation of Mr. Wright Nash. Our. contemporary is too late in suggesting that the governor could fill the place on the board of pardons made vacant by the declination of Mr. Harvey, by the appointment of a wo man for that place as the position has already been filled for several days by the appointment of a gentleman! from Colleton county. BANK EXAMINER CHOSEN. Brecutive Committee State Bankers' Associations Selects Lee G. Hofle man, of Anderson-Gov. Hey - ward Will Appoint Him. SColumbia, March 6.- Lee .?. Holle .man, of Anderson, will be appointed state bank examiner.. The appoint mient is regarded as being most ex cellent, and from all reports a really first-class man and expert bank offi cer has been selected. When the bank examiner statute was passed Governor Heyward promptly decided to ask the eecutive committee of the State Bankers' association to suggest a suitable man, and if this suggestion ~was agreeable he would make such ap pQdintment. He,is greatly pleased withi the suggestion of the executive eom mittee, and while he did not make the slightest intimation -or suggestion to-the committee as to any preference on his part, and if he had any no one knows it, he will with pleasure ap pint Mr. Holleman.1 President W. J. Montgomery~, See- t rtary Giles L. Wilson, Chairman of the Executive Committee E. P. Griee, of Charleston, and Messrs. W. P. An derson, of Westminrster, and T. B. Staekhouse, of Columbia, of the ex ecntive committee, were present at the conference to name a suitable can didate. Mr. Bright Williamson, of Darlington, was the only member of the bankers' committee not present aid he was detained by illness in his family. - The committee had nine applica tions to consider. Most of the appli ats presented a great many endorse-: rents and letters, all of which were read and considered. After a full: onsideration the committee decided to recommend Mr.. Lee G. Holleman, of Anderson, for the appointment-, and such a letter was addressed to' Governor Heyward. Mr. Hollerhan is very highly recommended, and has for a number of years been actively onnected with the Peoples' Bank of: Anderson, as assistant cashier. He is a young man, ehoek full of energy, ' and is credited with marked ability. : Mr. Holleman will have his head-* quarters in Columbia and he will have the selection of his assistant. Mr. olleman is expected to begin workI as soon as he qualifies. The appoint-' ment will be made tomorrow.( Whereas, God in his infinite wis om has deemed it best to remove from among us one of our oldest mem ers. if not the oldest, which we deep v and sincerely mourn.
