SUILCDE FO, LOVE. Miss Sallie lam, committed sui cide in Darlington on Thursday about 2:30. She was boarding with her cousin, J. K. Doyle. and attend ing the graded school and had just returned from a holiday visit to her mother, Mrs. J. F. Ham, Tim monsville. Not the slightest inti mation on her part was given of her intention. She was about 19 .years old and had declared she (lid not intend going to school any longer. Her mother and brother came up to see her. and she appear ed to be in her usual spirits, and they had just dined with her and left the house where she was stay ing, when the fatal shot was fired. They were overtaken and notified of the tragedy and returned to town at once. It is reported that Miss Ham wished to marry a young man of the Timmonsville section, and that. instead of consenting to the itar riage, her mother had sent her l-o Darlington to school, in order to get her away from her home, and to prevent, if possible, the marriage, to which she was very much oppos ed. Alletedo avaisis, the wonderful S so called "humming bird flower" of the plains of eastern Turkey, T stands unique and alone among the 3 many specimems of floral mimicry C that have been classified by modern I botanists. It is a beautiful lossOITI of variegated hues. the total length of the entire flower being about one and three-quarter inches. As one P might imagine from its name, it is V an exact image of a miniature hum- P) mnig bird. The breast is green, C the wings deep rose color, the B throat vellow and the head and P beak almost pure black. The only L particular in which it is not a per- T fect bird is that the stem gives it S the appearance of having but a sin- C gle leg and foot.
