E. H. AULL, EDITOR. Entered at the Postoffice at New beTry, S. C., as second class matter. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14. We are more and more convinced every time the question comes up that the law providing for these ex tra and special terms of court should be repealed. They accomplish very little any way. If the regular courts are not sufficient for the discharge of the business then the thing to do is to establish more regular courts. If we recall correct ly there was no regular civil court in Newberry at the last term and it was decided then that there would be no regular court but an extra term of two weeks would be asked for to be held in October. The special term was ordered and the special judge appointed. It held one week and then it was discovered on motion of Mr. T. P. Cothran that the jury for the first week could not serve for the second and the judge ordered that the motion was well taken and the jury was not a legal one for the second week. The two sections of the law relating to the drawing of the jury are printed- else where. After looking at them care fully we are convinced that the point is well taken. The act says "that not less than ten nor more than twenty days before the first day of each week of any regular or special term of the circuit courts of the said county the auditor, the county treasurer and the clerk of the court of common pleas, shall proceed in like manner to draw thirty six jurors to serve for such week only." Section II of the same act seems to have misled the jury commission. It says "that no more than thirty -six persons,.to serve as petit jurors, shall be drawn and summoned to attend at "one and the same time at any court." It seenms to have been the conclusion that this was only one court, though called for two weeks, and that therefore only thirty .six per sons should be drawn as petit jurors. It seems to u's ..that the language quoted above is perfectly clear that a jury should be drawn for each week and that they should serve for such week only. -The remedy is to abolish the act providing for these special terms and let the business be transacted at the regular terms. We have a great line of new fall goods to show you, and we want you to keep us busy waiting on you from now until Christmas. No such stock of Shoes, H..ts, Pants, Underwear, Hosiery, Gioves, Neckwear, Um brellas and Furnishing Goods, will be found at, any place that ycu can find at our store. We have the newest and best things that are manu factured or imported, as soon as they are shown. Our Business Methods. Our aim in business is to deal hon estly with the trade and to sell them reliable merchandise at the lowest cash p rices. We do not care to do a credit business or to mark our goods on a credit basis, therefore, you will find in visiting our store that we ask you all one price, and that price you will find just ats low, if not a little lower, than you can buy the same class of goods anywhere. It has been claimed by some that you cannot have one price in Newberry, that the people have been educated in late years to expect you to take less than you ask them at first; in other words, if you can afford to sell a shoe, or a hat, or a pair of pants at $2.00 cash, mark them $2.50, then if your customer asks you to charge them get $2.50, but if you can't get $2.50 or $2.25, take $2.00. This is not our way, and looking at it from our standpoint it would not be right, as we believe we owe it to our customnerd and to the trade to mark all our goeds just as low as we can sell them and treat all alike. Let the change of a p rice be an excep tion rather than a rule, and by getting the volume of business, making a small profit on each one, win the confidence of the trade and hold it for years. We believe that the more you investigate our methods. the better you will like to trade with us, especially so, when you have orders to fill and haven't the time to look all around, when you are to busy this fall, you can always feel sure that you are getting the right prices on everything you buy from us. SPECIAL. In order to induce you to concentrate your business with us, ""til further notice, we will allow yor er all pur chases of ten dollars and over, made at one time, a cash discount of five per cent.
