Miss Mary Burton has returned from a visit to \innsboro. Miss Ethel Boozer has returned home after a trip to Sullivan's island. Miss Minnie Todd, is visiting her sister. Mrs. James A. Bowers, in At lanta. Judge W. H. Hunt has gone to Spartanburg to resume his duties as judge. Mr. James H. Shelley is on an ex tended trip to his old home in North Carolina. Miss Del. Land. of Augusta, is in the city the guest of her sister. Mrs. John M. Kinard. Mr. W. F. Wright. of Laurens, was on a visit to his brother, Mr. Haskell Wright, in the city last week. Rev. Mr. Zimmerman is again at home. He has been attending the Cokesbury District Conference. Hon. R. A. Cooper, who is a can didate for solicitor of this circuit. was in the city during the past several days. Miss Georgia Ashley, who has been in the city on a visit to her sister, Mrs. M. L. Spearman. left on Satur day for a stay at Sullivan's island. Miss Jennie Eddington. of Fair field county. is visiting Mrs. R. E. Bedenbaugh. Mrs. W. I. Herbert returned yester day to her home in Columbia after a pleasant visit to friends in Newber ry. Misses Louise and Rosalind Hipp left yesterday for, an extended visit in Greenville. Mrs. J. V. Davis returned on Sat urday from Columbia. She was ac companied home by Mr. and Mrs. J. Roland Lyles. Sovereign Representative J. The remains will be interred in Rosemont cemetery this morning at 9 o'clock. The funeral services will be held at the hotuse. Death of Mrs. S. B. Hawkins. Mrs. S. Berley Hawkins died at her home near Prosperity on Saturday morning at S o'clock and was buried at St. Lukes on Sunday morning. She had been confined to her bed for the past two years. A Sudden Death. .Miss Janie Lee. of Anderson, who was in Newberry on a visit to the Nisses Williamson. received a tel ephone message on Thursday night that her mother had died very sud denly. Miss Lee returned home on the first train Friday morning. She had made many friends in Newberry whose deep sympathy she has. Mrs. Lee was a wife of Major W. S. Lee. of Anderson. and was a sister of the, Rev. J. L. Williamson. of this city. She was a second cousin to General Stephen D. Lee. commander of the United Confederate Veterans. A House Party. Roberson countN says: -We are needing rain iust noN on the corn. Unless we get it soor the corn will be short. and we don't expect a big cotton crop as therc are plenty of boll weevils in it now IYou wanted me to give you their his :ory. I am not a bugulogist and cannot give you much information as tc them, but will say that when they strike a neld of cotton they leavc nothing fr you to get. Last year 1 had u2; acres in cotton. Ordinarily I would have gotton 35 or 40 bales and I only gathered 5 bales. WC have got very little cotton planted this year. Only about forty acres on the place and if we don't make more than I did last year there will be less planted next year." Mr. Frank Crouch. writing from Smith county%. says they will raise nc cotton. Mrs. Catherike Langston, a sister of Mr. Crouch. writing from Nebit says the crops are good except cotton and that the boll weevil is in it sc bad they do not expect to raise any cotton.
