The Tri-State Odd Fellow, pub lished at Greenville. and edited by I. R. PedIen. in a recent issue says 'oevery clever thing about the recet Reekahconvntion held here. on the invitation of Mc Caughrin Rebekah lodge, of this city,- for the purpose of framing a petition to the grand lodge of Odd Fellowvs for a State Rebekah as sembly. Following are extracts from the report of the convention contained in the Tri-State Odd Fellow: "The Rebekah convention was a tv dieleates tronAi t1.e dlIftrent Re kazh iloiges in the State present. We are sure that the VISItors can say that the Newberrv people are made of the right kind ot iaterial. and carry their 'heart in their hands. "At ; oclock Pulaski lodge. No. 20. conferred the second degree on six candidates from Laurens. "This team is as fine as we have in the State. and they do the work' nicelv. The team was in charge of brill Master T. M. McEntire. who deserves much credit for the accomplishment. This exercise was more than interesting to the visi tors." A fter mentioning 'the fact that several candidates were given the Rebekah degree the Tri-State Odd Fellow says of McCaughrin lodge. its officers and degree team: " iss Ltcv Tones is the noble grand and M\iss Hattie Vaughn; vice grand. These are two spark-: ling Jewels that we know of in this lodge. While we did not get to meet miany. we can speak for these sisters' ability as officers. When we; come to the drill work in the team, it was as goo(I as we ever -,aw in this State-everybody was simply charmed to see them work. Grand Representative T. M. Davis is the ririll master of this team. and he. as well as the team. deserves great credit for the advancement they are making: while - knowing what a great Odd Fellow Brother Davis is. we were not greatly surprised." It is stated that the discussion on the matter of the formation of a State Rebekah assenibly was open ed hy Past G. C. Theo. Daniel sen. of Newberry. who made a speech on the work and importance: of a Rebekah assembly and that the discussion ended with a rous-; ing speech from Grand Master C. L. Blease. of Newberrv. on the subJect of the advisability of or-: ganizing a Rebekah State assem bly. The article in the Tri-State Odd Fellow closes as follows: "After the convention adjourn-' ed. the members were invited into the banquet hall. where they were served with an elegant collation by some of the fairest damsels of Newberry. To say we enjoyed this feast does not express it. You ought to have seen Bro. W. as he: took a half moon custard at a bite -he kept his hands busy feeding~ his face and a little "Becky" feed ing him too with a big spoon. "HURRAH! for Newberry. May their interest, enthusiasm and hospitality never be less. FAIRBANKS FOR VICE-PRESIDENT. t Is Said That He Has Yielded to the Demands of His Party and Will Ac cept if Nominated. A dlispatch from WVashington says that Senator Fairbanks was shown; a published dispatch stating that he had "decided to become a candidate: for vice-presidlent." He declined to) make any statement.
