After a criminal case !n which Sir
Frank Lockwood had secured an ac
tiuittal for the prisoners, Lord Bramp
ton, tlien Sir Henry llawkins, privately
congratuated him on the excellent way
in whilh he haid conducted the case
and remarked especially on the alibi
that had been established. "Yes," was
the characteristic reply, "I thought it
was pretty good-anyhow, the best of
