It. if. AUIL, tDITOR. THE STATE FAIR. The usual large crowds have been n attendance upon the State Fair in Columbia this week. The rail roads say that during each day so far they have hauled much larger crowds than on the corresponding days last year. The exhibits, displaying the re sources of the State, are very good, and this feature of the Fair improves each year. The main feature of the State Fair, however, is the re union of the people of South Caro lina, and the people attend mainly on account of the opportunity which is afforded for the renewing of old ac(uaintance and the making of new i acquaintance. Here the people from every part of the State commingle t and the mountains and the seacoast are brought close together and the people learn each other. From such communion good must result to the State and to her people. It is well once each year that the people of the State should meet in their own capital city. Columbia is handling the crowds well this year and she deserves great credit for what she has done for the State Fair. t The dificulty of the enforcement of the dispensary law in Columbia has been demonstrated this week. e The law has been enforced almost completely. Three or four consta bles have been stationed at every blind tiger in the city. This is the only way the law will be enforced in Columbia, for some time to come anyway. The expense is great. Probably a majority of the consta bles of the State are inO Columbia this week looking after the enforce ment of the law there. it seems that the Cleveland pres idential boom will not down. Ilad Cleveland not already had two terms he could lead the Democratic hosts to victory in the next cam paign. But we do not believe a 9 man can be clected to a third term. t Is it possible that there is only one man in the whole Democratic party who is available for leader? Surely some other than Cleveland may bf. found. It looks now as if George B. McClellan will be thme next miay'or of Newv York. Kind WVords. The followinig is from the Abbe ville l'ress amnd Blanner of the 28th:k "Editor \. T. Crews of the Laur- E ensville Herald camne to town on 'I Saturday, and Editor E. H. Chamberlain's Coug;h Remedy. qo one who is acquainted with its >d qualities can be surprised at the at popularity of Chamberlain's ugh Remedy. It not only cures ds and grip effectually and perma itly, but prevents these diseases m resulting in pneumonia. It is also certain cure for croup. Whooping igh is not dangerous when this rem ' is given. It contains no opium or er harmful substance and may be en as confidently to a baby as to an ilt. It is also pleasant to take. ien all of these facts are taken into isideration it is not surprising that )ple in foreign lands, as well as at ne, esteem this remedy very highly I very few are willing to take any er after having once used it.
