The President says ae is going to tho bottom of the sugar scandal and no dcub: he v.ill have a sweet time of it. Wei)man's -attack on Cook does not. count much. West Virginia legislators may out law foot bail from the State. Ii so,.West Virginia will never be an educational center. Harvard College has smashed its elective system. How can they hope any longer to attract rich men's sons looking for easy courses? The American kindergarten class in self-government requires a spanking once in so often, and Zelaya should prepare to take his. About 2S.917 Federal employees live in Washington. And this migh ty army achieves the heroic deed daily of getting to work at 9 a. m. Now an attempt ins been made on tho French Minister of war's life. Taking high office in these anar chistic duys is much like going to war. Miss Helen Taft, now at Bryn Mawr, seems to be making a lament able failure, compared with her pre decessors* in furnishing newspaper copy. Some-600.000 Porto Rican work ers petition President Taft for bet ter coalitions. Perhaps they want a law. forbidding picking bananas in tfce sunshine. Only twenty-five Yale students could be found to join a Socialist Club. After some of them make a i failure in life Socialism will lock more, attractive. Toe more dismissals from the New York customs on suspicion. Short . cuts to getting money usu ally prove much more circuitous in the long run. We have been hunting ever since August, but in vain, for some real old ?dtne thrillers in the fiction line, but Koon tho Congressional Record will come along to supply the need. A New York banker says the col leges are l'JO years behind the times in fitting men for business Strange that people have such an tiquated ideas of the purpose of a college. Tho politicians would like to find some decorative kind of a job for a certain lion hunter, but it is safe to s&y he'll never take the orna mental positions which they hand out to him. Orangeourg has au ambition to become a great trade center and grow and expand into a city of no mean proportions, but she has no special advantages to accomplish except be ing surrounded by thousands of good ana prosperous farmers. Under such conditions what is most needed is the inauguration of some enterprises on the part of our local capitalists besides bank?. They should capi talize some small cotton factories and see that they are successfully managed. If one or two such fac tories were inaugurated, and we couid prove to the worl i that they are successful, then outside enter prises would be sure to come and enjoy our prosperity along with ou rselves. Just like a fellow who finds a favorite fishing hole and catches fish, and all the o:h;:r fishermen v. ho see that he is catching will drop their hooks right by the side of the lucky fisherman. The busi ness men of Oranjeburg should stop talking and hoping for others to do something for the town. They shoul i get together themselves and prove to the world that they have a money making town. No outsider will want to fish in our swimming hole until we prove that they can catch fish. What Orangeburg noe's is one 01 two more cotton factories. In order for oar little city to grow we must have more factories, so as to induce more peopl-a to make their home here. People will go where they can lind work. The question of socur i.;; factories an 1 other sources of employment must be agitated and in ducements held out to either the citizens or outsiders to invest, or at ier.st investigate the possibilities of successfully operating plants here. The movement now being agitated to build another cotton factory here should be successfully carried out. An aggressive business policy on the part of our business men, reach ing out fur everything within reach, encouraging ail would-bo comers, j expending money when a two-fold J return is reasonably certain, it would seem is one of the ways to best J build up our little city. A town j is what its people make it. It may slowly grow by the little accretions that accidentally fall within its in-1 fiuence, or it can be pushed into vig- j oroas and rapid growth by the ag gressive activity of its business ele ment. The destiny of Orangeburg is in the hands of her business men. Shall site grow, or shall she lay be hind? Let them answer. n I Only Had Capital. The above words were recently uttered in our hearing by a worthy boy and undoubtedly they are often reiterated by many who are out of employment, or have little or noth ing to do. To all such we say, you have home capital, you have hand:;, feet, bone, muse!.', health and arc not these capital? What more capi tal has God given anybody? "But, if I only had a few thousaud ia cash capital," says the young man. But these are better than cash capi tal, for no one can take them from you, ami with these you can earn cash. Many of our men cf wealth and influence did not start with any cash capital. Tbey went to v,o:k with tiieir plow, the h"". the jack plane or ax; and in time their capital brought - them a rieb harvest. Ah! but there's tho rub; you don't want to work. You want money on credit so you can play the gentleman, spec ulate and end your career by play ing vagabond. You want to marry a rich girl who wiil support you, while you wear fine clothes, smoke cigars and be a gentleman of leis ure. Shame on you. young man: Go to work with the capital you have and you will soon make interest enough upon it to give you as much money as you need. If you cannot make money upon what capital you have, you eon! I not if you had a large amount in ctsh. If you waste your present capital you would waste money if-you had it. So don't stand around, a great helpless fel low, waiting ftr something to turn up, but go to work. Take the first work you can gel to do and do it well: Always do your best, and if you manage your capital that fJod has given well, you will soon have plenty more, to manage. < 'ouhJry. In these resorts th3 &ir was generally stuffy, and though they might derive no moral injury from two very fine games. there was physical enervation rather than stimulus about the pastime.
