Little it matters to Patriarch Barnet Wolinsky whether tingdoms rise or wane, Wall street urns panicky or firm; his days of aroring, planning and scheming, are past. Barnet Wolinsky, undoubtedly the eldest man in New York, has no record of his birth. He was born in itobrlne, State of Grodno, in Rus sian Poland. He figures the date jf his birth at 1802, because at the age of ten he saw Napoleon in Mos cow. That glimpse of tne mighty little emperor marked the first era in 32rnt Wollnsky's life. And an event ful life has been his. The second era was marked by his .narriage at twenty-one and his re moval to Horluwltoh, Russia, where le spent the greater part of his busy lie, becoming one of the richest and most Influential men of the commun ity. He owned several large and productive farms and was the pro prietor of three profitable taverns. With his temporal affairs running smoothly he turned his attention to study and eventually became a rabbi. With the first uprising against the .ews in Russia, Rabbi Wolinsky be ame the victim of religious frenzy. .-Us farms and taverns were confis jated, his first wife died after beg ing him not to attempt to reclaim als lands nor to struggle in his old age to secure a new footing in the iand of his bitter foes, and his gray aead was bowed in sorrow. la A terica he had both children and grandchildren. Hh declined all Invitations of children and grandchildren to share their homes until a year ago, when his Kecond wife died, and he broke up their pleasant little home to join the family of his eldest son, Max, who lives at No. 268 Thatford avenue.
