Council Chamber?City of Oiangeburg, S C, January 10.1907. Proceedings of regular meeting of City Council heir this day. Present Alderman Latbrop, Mayor pro tem rjfre<in''np;, and Aldermen Bowman, Smith, Smoak, Weeks and Wertz. Ab sent Mayor Dukes, (out of City.) All vouchers for disbursements for the month of December. 1907. were ap proved by the respective committees of Council. The report of the city ' isurer for the mooth of December, li>o7, was read and referred to the finance committee and ordered published. The report of the secretary commis sicners of public works for the month of December, 1907, was read and receiv ed as information and ordered publish ed The Clerk reported having renewed the contract of 1907 for advertising minutes and so forth for the year i908 with the Times and Democrat and The Sun, on the same terms as for 1907, 8250.00. The license for the fiscal year beginn ing April 1,1908, received its first read ing and was postponed for further ac tion. The resolution offered by Alderman Smith authorizing and directing the City engineer to prepare a map to be known as An Assessor's Map, was adopted Committee on fire department to whom the matter had been referred made no report on the application of the Niagara Hose Company for admis sion into the fire department of the City. The matter of the claims of R J Jeff ords for damages was continued in the hands of the Committee on streets. The petition of H E Reeves & o mp anv and others asking for a "ten-foot concretf sidewalk" on Court Square. In front of properties known as Nos 1, 3 anc 5, was read and received as in formation. A letter from the Chamber of Com merce of the City of Greenville to the Mayor, in reference to the assessing by cities of abutt ng properties for a part of the cost of street improvements, was read and the clerk instructed to sav in r ply thereto, that the couucil could not at this time give their ap proval of the plan. Est imate No. 9 of sewer construction con'race No. 1 for 53104 87 for the month of December, 1907, having been I approved by the sewer commission was I ordered paid by the Council. Also for r,he payment to the contractors of $1116 25 being 50 per cento' the amount now reserved on contrect No. 2, same having been approvea by the sewer commission. Tue approved claim of A. J. Dukf s for $30 00 damages for destruction of crop by laying sewer mams, was als I ordered paid. The expense bill of the sewer com mission for the n onto of l ?ecember advanced by the City, mounting to $133 50. approved by the sewer commis sion, was also orcered i aid Action on Hie Ordinance krown as "The Bicycle" Ordinance, was post poned. A tionon the petitions pertain ing to the same matter was also post pored.
