The News- and Courier and State are advising some of the holdover dispensary Senators to change over to the anti-side of the dispensary ques tion. We have received a copy of the in dustrial edition of The Spartanburg Journal. This special issue is a credit to the Journal and to the city of Sparbanburg. It is filled with good substantial reading matter, and is handsomely illustrated. It is one of the best and handsomest Illustrated editions ever gotten out by a South Caroluia paper. Ansel's election as governor outB him in the Senatorial class. If Gov. Heyward does not enter the race against Latimer, Gov. Ansel would prove a formidable candidate for the Senate. Knight of Sumter, tbe press of South Caro lina has Fust aired a loss which will be deeply felt. Col. Knight was editor of the Sumter Herald, and be made It one of the be3t weekly newspapers in tbe state. They knew him and tbey knew his worth and tbe value of his friendship. We esteemed it an honor to number John M. Knight among our friends. About School Books. State Superintendent of Education O. B. Martin Bays the contract wich publishers* of Bohool books is. to be strictly enforced. Teachers are not to have their pay warrants approved unless tbey use the adopted books. It will be to the advantage of the pat rons to have this rule strictly entere ed while tbe exchange period lasts, in order that all of the old books may be. taken up. It this is done, the en foroemcnt i f the rule will be easy af ter the exchange period expires. In a letter to the different County Super intendents of Education he says: "Please let all of the teachers, and proBpeot've teaohers in your county understand that the next regular teaohers' examination will be on Fri day, September 21st. Please make them understand aiso that do one is to be allowed to teaoh in your county, either as principal or assistant, with out a certificate properly registered in your office.
