A ROMANCE OF THE war. A Confederate Veteran Miirries Mt? Dnujih 1?rof it'Union Veteran. A Washington dispatch to the New York Herald announces the marriage in Indiana, November 27, of George A. Dawson, of Lousiana, and Miss Alice Lemon, of Washington, and accom panied with the following interesting account of a war romance with a long interlude : "George Dawson, a young captain in the Confederate army, lay seriously injured in 18154. prisoner of war. in* the United States hospital at Indianapolis. One of the ladies who visited the hospital frequently and ministered alike to the wearers of the i blue and the gray was a Mrs. Lemon, the wealthy widow of a Union officer. In these visits Mrs. Lemon was usually accompanied by her daughter Alice, then a little Miss of ten years. A fast friendship sprung up between the young Confederate and the little Union girl, which continued some months, until the former was exchanged and sent back to his regiment. Seven years ago Mrs. Lemon died, and Miss Alice, through the efforts of her Republican friends, secured a clerkship in one of; the departments here. Her health j gradually failed, and last October she resigned her position and went west to reside with relatives. The announce ment of her resignation was printed in one ol the New Orleans papers, where it met the eye of Captain Dawson, now a dignified bachelor of middle age and one of the richest planters on the Lower Mississippi. Captain Dawson immediately wrote Miss Lemon, and asked her if she was his little sweetheart of former years, and if so by what caprice of fortune she had been thrown upon her own resources. Miss Lemon answered the Captain, de tailing their financial losses at the time of the Jay Cooke failure and the subse quent death of her mother. Captain Dawson thereupon mailed the lady a check for $1,000, which he begged her to accept as a slight recompense for her mother's kindness to him while a prisoner of war. Miss Lemon returned the check, saying that under no circum stances could she receive it. Captain Dawson then came North to see if he could not personally prevail upon the ladv to accept his assistance. He went to Indiana, intending to stop only a couple of days, but he remained a month, and when he returned last week, he carried with him a Northern bride to grace his Southern home." INDIANS GOADED TO WAR. The Semlnoles Dancing their War Dances In the Florida Everglades. Jacksonville, Fla., December 7.? For several months past, according to trusted information which has just reached this city, bad feeling has exist ed between the Seminole Indians in Dade and Monroe Counties, in the ex treame Southern portion of the State, and a band of cowboys encamped on Lake Okecholiee. The cowboys tend the* herds of the South Florida cattle kings, and the Indians claim that they have been driving off and killing their cattle and hogs. Demands for redress were met by the cowboys with threats of a resort to bullets. Three weeks ago the exasperation of the Indians reached a climax, and several shots were exchanged, but if with fatal effect is not known. War dances have been danced in the everglades iiring the past two weeks, and the bucks are said to have donned their paint and feathers. Many of the settlers have re moved their families" to the islands along the coast for safety. The scene of the trouble is remote from railroad and telgraph conimuication, and accu rate particulars are almost unobtain able. It is reported, however, that a delegation of Indian chiefs is en route to Titusville, the nearest town of any size, to lay their grievances before the Mayor, whom they look up to as a bier chief, and erroneously suppose invested with power to suppress the outrages. He can do nothing but notify the Federal government. Whether he has done so is not known. A gentleman who has just returned to this city from Titusville says the people on the out skirts of the everglades fear that a massacre of the whites will result if the trouble is not adjusted within a few days. The settlers claim that the Seminoles can muster 500 fighters. Should they go on the warpath their suppression would be nearly impossible, as the everglade swamps are almost impenetrable to any one but their Indian inhabitants. Should news of an Indian outbreak reach the Apaches at Fort Marion and Pickens, it is fear ed they might become dangerously restless, though escape would ue ditfi cult if not impossible._ 'Tis ?worth travelling for to see the busy store of Theodore Kohn, to hear the hum of voices, to mingle with the moving throng, to listen to the comments on the goods and see the people buy. When the resources of Nature have: become retarded, no mutter from what cause, it is then quite time to help the i Liver and Spleen, and other organs, to perform their thorough duty?or we shall soon be quite ill. In such cases there is no more natural remedy than a mild cathartic, one which will be sure to perform its duty without injuring the system in the least. Such, let US say in all candor, is Simmons' Hepatic Compound. It will gently move the bowels, without irritating- them in the least: when the medicine works, the bowels are soothed and healed like a charm?yet. the medicine is more effec tive than Calomel: one. of the principal ingredients possess all the good qualities of that poisonous drug, without any of its constituents. A dose of Simmons' Hepatic Compound every night oo going to bed, will infallibly restore health. Testimony of the highest con sideration from every portion of the country, and from all classes of people, abundantly substantiate this fact.
