There have been so many
things to do to get out this issue
on our own press that we have
had no time for writing
editorials. If we had stopped to
write them the printing would
not have been done, so what
would have been the use.
Later on we will try to do a
little better.
The Journal is very grateful
to the Monroe Journal for doing
our press work last week. The
forms were set up here and
carried to Monroe to have the
press work done, as it was impossible
to get our press to
v work by that time. Messrs. G.
M. and John Beasley, Prof

Many Food Pledges Were
Signed Here
During the past week millions
of American housekeepers have
signed the Hoover Pledge cards
to support the Food Administration
in conserving the nation's
resources. This movement
which was thourouglv organ
ized in South Carolina by
counties has met with success.
Chesterfield county was organized
bv townships so that the
territory might he successfully
worked. In this way it was
planned to reach everybody.

homes in the movement on the
side of the Food Administration.
This seems to be a good showing
when it is remembeted that
the town of Pageland was can-1
a ;sed the past summer. In
most cases the solicitors havel
met with hearty co operation in I
their work. Their success is
due to the fact tnat the people
are in accord with the government
and are glad to give support.

A Chance For Service
The Great War has clearlv
singled out tuberculosis as
among the worst enemies of
armies and has shown that the
control of tuberculosis is one of
the most important steps in mo
bilking the strength and conserving
the resources of a nation.
The 150,000 French soldiers in
valided back from the trenches
and the vastly increased ravages
of the disease among the civilian
population offer our nation
a timely lesson. Every person
selling Red Cross Christmas
Seals, sold this vear as every
year only for fighting tuberculosis,
has a vital opportunity to
