The National prohibition law which Congress passed right on the heels of the DuRant State law has caused quite a little speculation as to the effect it will have upon the quart-amonth law. Senator Laney is quoted as saying the State law will stand and that enyone who swears he wants it for medicine can get a quart once a month even after luly 1, 1917 when the National law is supposed to become effective. If you expect your melons to command a fair price on the market, you must grow jnelons like your neighbors. Plant the same kind of seed, fertilize and cultivate as he does. Don't imagine you can go into this single handed and win. You stand about ninety-nine chances to fail winere you stand one to win. Join the organization, get seed like the others and co-operate with vour neighbors. Perhaps this will never be read by any Republican congressman, but if it should we would like for it to be considered a warning to steer clear of the thrusis of a reddish haired member who is soon to enter the I louse of Representatives. William i?. Stevenson will not be in that bou> very long until every member will know that the fifth district of South Caro j lina has a representative there who is the intellectual equal of any man in it, and the old idea that a man must remain there years and years to get recognition will be shown to be wrong. Of couise his committee appointments will come slowly, but when debating time comes he will be ready for 'em. Big rivers and harbors appropriations will come in for criticism by him, and appropriations tor roads will get support.
