Thomas' j farm in Lanes Creek township ( was convicted in Recorder's court Satuiuay for stealing an j axe from Esq. B. F. Parker and ( was fined $10. A negro drove one of Mr. E. ( B. Riggins' mules to Monroe ( Saturday and hitched it, but when he went back for it no ^ mule was to be seen. The mule i 1 i J r huu ouggy was recovered sun j day afternoon a few miles above Monroe, and the negro who stole them was arrested and * lodged in jail. He was tried be- ^ fore recorder yesterday and sen- N fenced to four months on the ^ gang. s 5 Mr. S. I. Cato and Mrs. Mag- f gie Mcintosh, of Cheraw were [ married on September 30th by g Rev. A. H. McArn. They spent c a few days on a bridal tour and f returned to their home at Che- v raw last week. Mr. Cato is a ( brother of Mr. J. R. Cato, of ( Pageland, and is quite well f known in this section. The school building at Ruby which was erected a year or two ago is being completed. The total cost will be something more than $5,000. This is a splendid building, and is a credit to Ruby and to her citizens who have been instrumental in its erection. There are seven rooms and the auditorium. Redfearn Auto Company, agents for Fords in Old Store and Jefferson townships, receiv ed the first of the new model Fords recently. The new mod el shows several slight changes, one of which is a black shell radiator in place of the brass one. The new ones present a much better appearance, looking as they do much more like an automobile. ( A'case of choreal paralysis de < veloped at Ruby recently, and ( it was feared that it was infantile , paralysis. Dr. Riser, assistant ( State Health officer, was called, \ and to the relief of the people i of Ruby he pronounced it cho real and not infantile as they had feared. The former is not con tagious, but the latter is. Parnell Crawley, son of Mr. J. W. Craw i ley, is the victum. His limbs on i only one side are affected and he is able to walk after a fashion. The school at Ruby was post ' poned for one week because of the scare, and opened Monday of this week instead of last. i A sad and fatal accident oc 1 curred 011 the main street of Ruby last Thursday morning '< about 11 o'clock when Mr. Co'on Campbell fell from a , spirited horse and struck his < head against a root, which crush- , ed in the skull and rendered him i unconscious. He was carried to Hamlet in the afternoon where , he died Sunday morning about ! 4 o'clock. Upon first examina tion at the hospital it was ? thought that possibly he could live without an operation, but ( later this decision was changed and the operation was performed about 12 o'clock Friday night. He never regained consciousness, < and death came as stated above. | The accident occurred just in* front of the Huntley hotel. The body was brought back and burried at the Campbell burying ground a few miles northeast of Ruby about 11 o'clock Monday- ( Born to Dr. and Mrs. J. M. fallings todav a daughter. Messrs. S. J. A Philadelphian who had been away from his home for several years decided to visit his native city. After his arrival there, while on his way to his brother's home, the taxi in which he was riding was held up by a tuneral procession. 'Whose funeral is that?" he asked a newsboy standing on the curb, "Bill Smith's," replied the newsie. "I knew him well," said the man; "can it be possible Bill is dead?"
