This lot is only a small one, and first come, first served shall be the rule. This announcement becomes necessary because of the advance in price of paper, ink, knives, scissors, etc. White paper costs twice as much now as formerly, ink is out of sight, and the advance in all articles of hardware is a matter of common knowledge. In view of these advances, we make the , above announcement that our readers may not be disappointed when they come in to renew. We regret that this has become necessary, but we can not a1 1! A! cuange urn cunuiuuns. we find that we can not publish a worthwhile sheet, sell it for a dollar and give awav a highpriced knife for luck. The work is congenial but we can't do if for our health alone. After the present small supply of knives is gone we do not intend to buy any more, but we do propose to give ten per cent off for cash in advance. Credit will be extended for a limited time onlv, probably six months, and all who neglect or refuse to pay will be dropped from the list. WANTS YOUR BOY OR GIRL Perhaps it is not generally known that Pageland High school rgqeives State aid under the high school act, and that any boy or girl in the State may enter the high school depart ment without paying tuition. Such is the case, however, and there are splendid opportunities here for the bo> or girl who has finished in the public schools and is ready tor high school work. This department of the school is not crowded, and the competent instructor has the time to devote to the work and make the instruction personal to a degree. Dukes is a high toned gentleman, and young people who come under his care are sure to be made to feel the up lifting influence of a well trained mind and a character of sterling worth. Parents out of the district who have boys or girls to send to high school will do well to look carefully into the advantages offered by the high school department of the Pageland school. DOUBLE DAILY SERVICE ON C. & L. There has been some talk about a motor car to be put on the C. &. L. road to carry passengers and mail and make two round trips daily, starting from Pageland in the morning and returning after the Seabord trains run in the afternoon. Such a car would not have ta be very large, and it could be operated by one or two men. It is said * J 1 * * iiiai uouDie uauy service could thus be given cheaper than the present unsatisfactory service. The present service is unsatisfactory because only one trip a day is made and because it is impossible to run on time and do the work reouired of this train. The proposed motor car could be light, and still be large enough to accommodate the nacconnn.ro r-?>/ovii^vi>) who travel this way. Not only 1 would this be cheaper, hut in ouropinion.it would uialciially increase the passenger receipts V of the road, By this method Pageland and the other towns along the line would have much better mail service, which they need and deserve. Every man who believes this car would benefit the service should write a letter or card at once to Mr. C. Lane, Cheraw, S. C. and urge him to give us this service.
