C., under Postal Act of March 3, 1879. , March 1,1916 The season for the sandhill farmers to begin plowing up the so called roads through their fields is again here. Where there is such a road it is almost invariably used as a ditch to carry off the surplus water. The rows usually run in such way that the water is emptied right into the road. Loose white Sand thus fills the roads, and the sand is right there to annoy all who try to travel the road. Why do sandhill roads have no ditches on the sides to carry the water and keep out the loose sand? Why, also, do those who plow insist on dragging the plows right out into the road, piling up bumps and plowing out tiny furrows in the road?"\ ?- ^ The value of humus, or vegetable matter, is not appreciated by a great many farmers, if we are to judge by their methods. Not many days ago the writer saw sandy land that had been burned over before the plow? just ordinary stalk land with a fair crop of grass on it?and that land needed humus more than any other one thing, perhaps. Valuable fertilizing materials were thus destroyed, and this farmer will soon be here hauling away high priced commercial fertilizei to make his cotton get knee high. When the people realize that nothing should be burned on the farm that can be turned under with a two horse plow or piled up and rotted and later spread on the land, one of ?, the greatest lesson/? of improved methods 01 farming will have hPf*n loornorl The W. M. U. Meeting. The quarterly meeting of the 7 W. M. U. held at Wolf Pond church on Feb. 19th was, from the writers view point, a success The talks and readings bv the different women having part in the service were very helpful and inspiring. We believe that these gatherings of our women and the good seed they are sowing for the work will result in great good for the cause so dear A.~ ?1* * (o an our nearts. The ladies of the Wolf Pond church deserve special mention for the hearty welcome they gave us to their church and the bountiful dinner they served. They made it so pleasant for us that we were very reluctant to leave. The next quarterly meeting will be held with the Jefferson _"L * ciiurcn some Line in May. The one sad thing about the meeting at Wolf Pond was the burial of Mr. John Plyler which took place at the noon hour at the cemetery there. Edna V. Funderburk. Burned To Death By Acid.
