The Pageland Journal Published Wednesday Mornings C. M. Tucker, Proprietor Subscription Price - - $1.00 Entered as second-class mail matter at the post oifice at Pageland, S. C., under Postal Act of March 3,1879. July 14, 1915 We are neutral as to the war in Europe just about like a man we heard of recently. He declared that he was perfectly neutral, as he "didn't give a darn who whipped the Ger mans." ^ ? After careful consideration we have decided to allow Mr. Wilson and Mr. Bob Lansing to answer the latest German note without so much as a suggestion from us. They are able to handle the matter satisfactorily, we suppose, and we shall turn oui attention to other matters. An honest man is the exception rather than the rule, but it is no longer necessary to search with a lantern in broad open daylight. Mr. J. W. Laney is one. A few years ago he swapped wagons with Mr. J. R. Cato agreeing to pay him twentyseven dollars and fifty cents difference, though Mr. Cato said he thought thirty would be about right. Mr. Laney used the wagon a day or two and when he went to settle he said, "You were right, thirty is about the difference." And he paid thirty. Now, trot out another man as honest as that. So much has been said and written about the resignation of Mr. Bryan and there are so few who try to defend his action that we are reluctant in saying what we feel. The war-mad kaiser of Germany views his resignation as an evidence that Mr. iHVULj I 11 people and that public sentiment in the United States is at least divided as to the best methods of adjusting the differences between the two governments. Germany does not think the president is in earnest when he demands the rights of Americans. As we see it, Mr. Brvan has done more by resigning at such a time to bring about trouble than any other one man. The German reply to the American note of protest shows clearly that Germany does not take the president seriously. The resignation of the president's secretary of state at the critical moment had much to do with it. T~ Jury List.
