The Secretary of state has granted a certificate of dissolution to the Citizens' bank of Cheraw with a capital of $50,000. Mr. C. W. Boone formerly conductor on the C. & L., and who now has a position at Big Springs, has moved his family back to Cheraw. Nearly every farmer boy was glad to see it rain yesterday, but not many of them were bold enough to sav so. while daddv was looking far out the window frowning. Mr. Levy Ogburn, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Ogburn, of Pageland, who has been teaching in Chesterfield high school, has accepted a position with Retail Hardware company at Jefferson. Mr. Walter Ogburn is manager of this growing firm. Mrs. Belle Griffin, wife of Mr. James Griffin, of Marshville township, died Sunday and was buried at Faulks Monday. She was nearly 80 years old and was thrice married. Her first husband was Mr. W. Amos Small, of Lancaster county, the second was a Mr. Blackmon. A larae family of children survive. The parcel post is being used more and more and soon the people will begin to realize the opportunities it affords. We see 5-gallon oil cans, crutches, suits of clothes, and other things too varied and numerous to enumerate. We haven't heard that any one has ordered a ton of fertilizer byfmail yet. Barge 40:room hotel is being erected iST ?sig "Springs in The lower p?t of the county, and this popular resort will be ready for the pleasure seeker about June 1st. The hotel is near the spring and about a mile from the station which is also called Big Springs. A fine road leads from the station to the spring and a gasoline boat will be put flic rivor trx vii tuv 11 v vi iv naiiopvii puoo\;ir gers and for the pleasure of those who may be stopping at the resort., There is now little excuse for our people to go away for their summer vacation, when this excellent resort is so near at hand. Mr. John L. Lowry, one of the m ost prominent citizens of Jefferson and Chesterfield county, died at his home in Jefferson Sunday evening about 7 o'clock, after suffering for several days with heart trouble. He had been dangerously ill for a few days and it was reported before that he was dead. He was an ol11 or in itio O 1? 111 nib jtiiciauu 1 I csuyterian church, and was a man respected by his fellow man. He had been an important figure in the history of Jefferson. The funeral was conducted at his home on Monday at 3 o'clock by Rev. A. W. White and the body was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery about 4 o'clock. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Elizabeth Miller before her marriage, and the hi others, sisters, and children! named be low: the three brothers are William Lowry, of Cartersville, S. C. Sheriff Robt. Lowery, of Wades boro, and Frank Lowry of Taxa haw; the sisters are Mrs. John Watson, of Wingate, N. C., Mrs. John Ravfield and Mrs. Peter Rayfield, of Mt. Croghan: the children are John M. Lowry, of Kersaw, R. B?, C. H., W. C., Henry, Misses Lucy, Fannie and Eva Lowry and Mrs. L. E. C-, returned to his home on Ruby route two the latter pari of March and has again taken charge of his work as pastor of Providence, Ruby and several other churches. Mr. Oscar and Miss Ilattie wouglass, of Chesterfield, spent Sunday at the home of Mr.W. E. Eddins. Miss Gary Bird is teaching a subscription school for one month. The rate is SI.00 per student. The ball game last Tuesday between Chesterfield and Ruby resulted 2<> to 10 in favor of Ruby. The entertainment Tuesday night was very much a success. There will be an ice cream supper given at the school building Thursday night for the benefit of the Methodist church. Mr J. I). Kedfearn, of Pageland spent Tuesday night in Ruby visiting a special "friend." Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Steen wish to thank their many friends for the kindness shown them during the illness of their mother.
