Gen. Padilla attributes the success of the patriots to the energy and spirit that pervaded the people of every class through out the country, more especially the ladies among whom is particularly mentioned the lady of the connnandcr in chief, general Padilla j and also, Donna Juunna A/.urdy, who, at the head of 30 privates and 200 countrymen, had put to flight the enemy in several rcncountrcs : in one of which, she in person wrested from an ensign of a company the colors which had been presented them for their braverv* manifested in tlie con quest of the cities of ia po/., Peru, Areqoipa and Cutco.
