The ground was ploughied 14 inch. es deep, and furrows nine inches % ide; harrowed and rolled; thet drilled ex. actly North and Soutth. Drills four fet apart, and planted live kerniels in a place, two f e, six incies alart. On the lirst hoeing all bt, three plauts were removed from each hill. On the 8th day of May, tetn acres were planted with aced which ha-id beet soaked in a solntion of thtree pounds of saltpetre and two of cop ieras. These tU neres yielded sixty. live bushels to the aere. - On the 15th and sixteenth of May. ten acres more were jilanited with seed soaked twenty four hours in tLhe samte or a similar solutiun. The Yield Of this was one hundred and hve bushels to the acre. Th'le remnailing fifteen acrecs was nlot planlted until the 5th of' *June, when it wa plantted with seed wthiich had been steeped for thirty hiours ill a solution similar to that befiore mnentioned. Many knowing ontes predicted that tis would be a failure-it would com te to nothing. 1'Te result was thaltfm tese fltit acres was harvested 1 680 bushels of cornt-or one1 1, ium/ru' /Ind lwe/'e bushels to the acre! Now about the after cltur. As soon as the pilants were~ eonventiently above ground the ploughs were set toi work, followed by thea hoes. IThis time a lightt plough was run as close to thte plantts as practicable, (aand being propietly drilled, the rows w er-e pier fectly straht,~) and thte earth turnied fro, the plant. Then the mien with hoes remnoved every remtainting weed, and loosened' and leveled the earth about the plants. This done, a culti. vator was ruan in tihe cenitre betweent the rows to level thec ground, and give) a finish to the wveeds, which were shtow. ing themselves it legions. As soon as the hield was thtus gone thiroutgh, a secotnd course was com-j mnenced. T1his ploughing was the re. verse of the first; a slight furrow was thrown to the plants, and againt the men with hoes followed the ploughs, demolishing the weeds attd drawin~g a small quantity of fresh earth to thie plhants.-Ag'ain thte cultivator ;u as ruts between the rows as before. )Jy thtis time' the weeds weme pret ty well mastered, antd no0w a big phiugh was' brought inito use, Lo whichh werte attached two p owerful hiirses, jdheed one before thte othter. 1sn go mng through first, thte landside of the plough wvas held a few inches past the mtiddle between theo rows, anid ton comning back, the plough was rtun about two inches deepher, the landaide again past the muiddle the oither way. Tfhis timeOL afan followed thte ploutghl to relieve any, plants whticht mtight, lie borne down by the earth, and the work was done till ham vest. -.2.-TnnEiE AenES OF* POTAroEs. Thlis w~as uipland, broken, soil much the samfen as the preceedinlg; had been in the pasture fur eight or ten years. The ground was broken up in the ear ly part of' March, as deep ats thme plough could be run; afterwards lhar. rowed, rolled and ridged; the ridges were then split with a deep tutnning plough, and the potatoes dropped in the bottom of the furrowp~eight- inch. es apart. he potatoes were~ cut, so as to leaa ,.o godd eyes to each set? iRefuse straw, wet or dry, was now thrown o'e~r the potatoes, to tihe depth o)f 'several meches, Sad the whole deep. ly covered~with the plough. T1he rows wore thiirtyLwo inches apart. As soon as the sprouts began to ap F ar at the surface, the field was cross tarrowed, and during thte season culti. v'atcd much as the corn. menltioned in tLie first ex periment-ploughed three times and hoed twive, In November the potatoe's were gathered, the ridges being opened by the plough rimning twiee through each row, a boy fiollowing the first Limne, to pick ui) Suei potatoes as rnight fall back int LcLie furrow, and be trodden upon ly the horse its ie returned. The potatoes were very large, aned there was no disease ainong them.
