W IIEREAS information has reached this Department that on the night of the 28th of February last a murder was committed in Darlington district, upon the body of a slave named Petcr, the property of L. A. Williamson, by a gun.shot would inflicted by Wm. L. Williamson, who has fled from justice. Now to the intent that the said Wm. L. Williamson may be apprehended and brought to trial and condign punishment, I hereby offer a reward of Two hundred and fifty Dollars for his delivery into any of the jails n this State. The said Williamson is about five feet eight inches in height, well formed, sandy hair, red complexion, gentlemanly in deportment, and suposed to be thirty-four years old. TIIE UNDERSIGNED would respectfully annuunce to the friends of Temperance general ly that they intend to commence the pu blica tion of a 'Iemperance Paper, about the 15th of June next, provided a sufficient number of Sub. scribers can be obtained to warrant the under taking. It will be printed upon substantial paper of Imperi.! size, and will contain 24 columns of mitter. It n ill be denomina ted the "South Carolina Temperance Standard," and will be ,blished every two weeks, at the price of One 'Iar r annum. As soon as fifteen hundred subscribers are obtained. we will publish it weekly at the samne price. Our sole object is to advocate the cautse of Temperance ; and particularly the Legislative Prohibition of the TIraffic In Intoxicating Drinks ; and to prepare the masses of the pea. ple of our State, .for the euactment of such a Law,-'by convincing them of its expediency and necessity. .We will endeavor to make it a welcome vi. itor in every family. Nothing will be admit. ted into its column s of a worth~esa and immoral tendency. A strict neutrality will be maintained on all subjects of a political and religious sectarian character. No subscription will be received t- -for less than one year, and in every case the order must be accompanied by the money. A limited number of advertisements will be lnserted at the usual rates.
