Thorias Stocks us Moderator. The denomination con tains 75,540 members, 1213 churches, 674 ordained ministers, and 192 licon tiates. Consider ably more than two thirds of the members of those churches are whites.. The number of associa tions comprising these churches is .58. The'accession by baptism during the past year amounted to 5923, and the whole' nett gain in inenbership was 8080'. -Distmit readers will be sur prised that there are inure than twelve hundred Baptist churches, great and mall,in the State of Georgia. The convention owns a large amount of funds invested for various objects, of which above $130,000 are in the University funds, about $50,000 are in other investmeuts for benevolent purposes; while there is a large amount of real estate connected with the Unti versity, the Hearn School, Penlield 1'emale Academy, the Christian index (the organ of the denomination,) and also with other institutions in Addition to their money funds. Be sides the revenuns from these iinstitu ions, there have been contributed du ring the year over $14,000 for objects of a missionary nature. The depart ruents of missions embrace Foceign, aonie, State and Indian Mission ; the societies aided, are the Bible Publica tion and Tract organizations ; and funds are provided for indigent ophans and for 'educating the children of Bap tiet Ministers. Being nearly of the same aige, and constant co mpanions it is entertaining to hear her address them. The editor recoin mends the culture of rice in that set tion, and says there is no erop that makes abundant yield. As the Committee of Finance in the United States Senate has decided that in their opinion, the Government Lf the United States is not bound to taako up to the creditors of Texas the dilierence between the rate 'at which sie has reduced her debt and the noini nal or liee value of her securities, it becomes useless to protract during the present session of Congress a fruitless struggle to secure paylent ill iti Qn that debt. The undersigned, therefore, calls uon)0 such of the creditors of Texas as are willing to accept the settlement she tenders them, (which may be seen on the thee of the audited certifieates they hold,) to signify the sane to him at this place, with the least possible delay, that he may have their authori ty, with that of 'those he now repre sents, to menoralize Congress fotrth with, so to modify the proviso in the boundary act as to relieve the five miillions appropriated to their payment. frotn their present suspension in the Treasury of the United States, and. thus to enable theni to sign their re leases sepanttcly at the Treasury, and receive their motley with the least pos sible delay.
