INTS FOL TIlE SEA6N#-4Thae.foloW. ing wo glean from the Agricultiurist of the present month and will be found of inter est: Killing Hogs.-This is the month for butchering, and altbough it is a job of hanrd. disagreeable la bor, lrimers gener. ally contrive to make a (Iday of plelasure of it, by in viting some neighbor to come and help, by way of "clansgira works.' This is all right. It promotes harot y and good feelitng; provided. that old-lash ionctc accompaitiiment of' butchering day is excluded. As you loe peace, banish the old black rum jug-don't scald your throat instead of the hogs. The best way to scald hogs, is, not to heat the water in kettles, as we used to do, over the old k itchen fire: and then carry it out in pails, to the great danger of everybody around. Provide a trough about ten fLet long, and wide and deep enough to receive the body of a lirge hog; fill it half fill of cold wa ter; have a dozen stones, weiglhig ten to twenty pounds each, heated in a conveni ent fire; take dhem out with a shovel (it Wil not injure a barn shovel); put themll into one end of' ie trongh, and the water will soon be hot enough; then re.heat the stones for the next hog. Water may he heated inl a tub or barrel, but it is not so convenient. You vill find this the best season for killing hogs, and yout should see that they are well fe1d, anid ready to be killed the first cold spell. We iever wait for pork to cool befire sahtinag. Cut up and salt at once. Sc that every part is thoroughly rubbed with fine salt. With. in a week, overhail anud rub againa; in ten days more, repeat the operatiot. When. ever the meat has conpletely abhsorbed &ix poun&s of good rock salt to the hiatn. dred weight, and laid about twentitv days, it will be found to be cureid enoigh to smoke. This should be done in a cool, well-ventilated room. The best way is to have a fire o!t doors, and coatuct the smoke through a flue; but aaever build the I fire in the same room ina which the meat is to be cured. FtRE PHIs:CArTIONs.-Tmull E are few fires that might not have been- prevented * by the exercise of prudence, anid a vaist nlumber. which ifave beenl einised b)-,- nliI. getace, arisim f'rom sheer lazintess.
