Special care will be taken to make such arrangements and euforc c su?h rules as will remove all fears which may ho entertained by some on the score of boys and girls being educated at the same school. 3rd. Modern furniture and appli ances will be introduced as aids to discipline, instruction and comfort. 4th. Hugo G, Sheridau is a gradu ate of the South CarolinaCollcgo, and has had several years experience in teaching in St. Matthews. Gth. Stilos R. Mcllichamp Is a grnduato of tho Charleston Collcgo, and has had long experience iu teaching iu the Charleston Marine school, which J was broken up by the war, iu St. Matthews, and in Orange burg. INDEPENDENT CITIZEN FIRE ENGINE COMPANY? This splendid and intollegent colored Fire Company have succeed ed in getting their building upon the Jail lot, whore they will horeaftor have an excellent location for their Engine. They return spcacial thanks to citizens for furnishing provisions during the progress of the removal of their building. Mr. Riggs furnished rollers and bars; Mr. Strauss lumber; Mr. U. M. Smith two days labor; and with the assistance of members of the Coin met got the building there with out any expense. Iu a word, the citizens nil acted nobly in helping tho Independents, and we trust that they will show their appreciation of this kindness by their good conduct. Mayor Boliver contributed largely to the success of tho Independent?. While all the members of the Company did their whole duty we cnu not help to especialy notice tho untiring enery and will of their President Mr. Charles Thorn, who never left the wheel until the build ing wns to the spot. TRIBUTE OF KESPEGT. At a regular meeting of Charity Lodge, No. 02, ancient Free Massons, held July 20th 1877, the following preamble and resolutions were adop ted : \VriKRA8, it hath pleased the Sup remo Architect of the Universe to re move from our midst by a sudden dis pensation our beloved and worthy Brother Ernst us V. Shuler, and while wo submit with becoming resig nation to His inscrutable will, we feel that wc have sustained a great loss, that a dark shadow has fallen upon our Lodge, and our hearts uro filled with grief. Death has entered our ranks and weakened tho chain by which wc are united, man to man. How often in this room have we taken sweet counsel together on behalf of suffering poverty, for the relief of dis tress, the succor of the widow and ^orphan, aud the benofit of the craft. But here wc shall meet him no more. Tho seat of our Brother is vacant. We mourn not as those who have no hopo. Our beloved Brother has pass ed through the valley and shadow of death and wc trust has entered the portals of a happy immortality. All who knew him respected and esteem ed him for his many virtuos. As a citt zen, neighbor and friend, a galaxy of amiable qualities cluster around his character, ever ready as heroes to dis charge the duties of life promptlyJahd always fuiihful, kind, benevolent and sincere. In his domestic relations ho possed many excellencies worthy of imitation, a devoted husband, an indulgent parent, a dutiful son, and a kind Brother. As a professor of re ligin, he was humble, sincere and de vout, aud was one of the most active and zealous members of Antioch Bap tist Church. As a Mason he was warmly attached to our fraternity, devoted to our p rinciples and acted them out in his daily life.
