A great many of the leading colored men of the State wore present aud addressed the large gathered, from the steps of tho Claflin Univer sity. The speeches were all good and replete with such advice and informa tion as our colored friends would do well to heed, coming as it does from men, sensible, intelligent men of their own raco. The Hon. R. B. Elliott's speech particularly, v/ns full of infor mation, and interesting to all, both white and colored. Tho large crowd assembled in the grounds of - the University, appeared to have left all euro behind them; and the pleasant jeat, the merry jokes and friendly conversation passed .tho time Hipldly owny, assisted by the various bands whoso music now and again floated oiit over tho grounds.
