The New York Sin has indulged in a perfect load of anath> etnas against him, and always denounced him as an imposter, a fraud etc,anci its columns have teemed daily wit! editorials of the bitterest kind, and. tc our reeret, many of the Southern pa pers have taken up the cudgel and usee it with all their might. This, to us seemed in bad taste. We freely affini that we believe that Mr. Tilden wai elected, and that he should have oc' cupied the position to which he wo: honestly chosen. But when we go i step further and see the means by wbicl Mr. Hayes was placed there, we neve: could blame him. If judges and sen ators could establish a commissioi to make him President of this grea country contrary to law; and if this ar bitraroent was to be final, and to be nc ceptcd by both parties, then we sa; that he was not to blauio for hold tnrr r.nsition that he does, even if i Sltfr r was wrong. The Nation's Ten Dollar Bond The buIps of the new 810 refunding certificates at the New Ifork postoffict have been rapidly increasing for the pist week. On Friday they reached 870,750. Postmaster James has gont to Washington to arrango for supplying the certificates in greater quantities The law provides that at the postoffice not inoro than 8100 shall be sold to one applicant at one time. But some applicants have taken their places in the Jine as often as possible, and one got as much as S?>,UIHJ in one uay. m bouiu cases telegraph boys and other messengers are employed to hold places io the line. The books show that in nearly every case the buyer takes all that he is entitled to buy. Among the buyers, however, arc many tradesmen and women, who are evidently making investments in these certificates instead of deposiung tneir money iu savings bank*. The lutercst amounts to one cent every nine days. The certificate is in the form of a bank note, and can be readily usod as money. The verification of this assertion will he found I in the bankruptcy of the land owner who furnishes the land, and the merchant who furnishes 'he supplies, and in the poverty t of the negro tenant. 3 Then why not encourage the negro exodus to Kansas? He adds nothing to the ' material prosperity of the country, and is j admitted by all to be injurious, morally and politically. We cannot hold the negro responsible for being here with us, or for > claiming the rights of freemen. These conditions were forced upon him; hence the incidental injury to ourselves from . these conditions are chargeable to the , a agencies employed in .forcing such condU tions on theni and us. Therefore, I would t not drive the negro out of the country, or . take their privileges away by force ; yet if they are willing to go, I would encourage them and aid them to the extent of our ability. The cost of the experiment of free negro citizenship should be borne by . Northern white men, who first enslaved, , t then emancipated and finally enfranchised them to perpetuate the ascendency of the 3 Radical party.
